Job Summary

The Manglik and Shoichet labs at UCSF are looking for a highly motivated lab manager in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. We are seeking someone to join our team rooted in equity, diversity, and curiosity. The available research position will enable the manager to expand their management skills and learn new approaches in molecular biology and biochemistry.

JOB OVERVIEW
Manage day-to-day lab operations including ordering supplies, maintaining lab stocks, managing chemical inventory and safety records, organizing reagents, assisting with biological and radiological use authorization compliance, equipment maintenance, assisting with lab organization, material transfer requests, oversight of record keeping, and assisting with grant preparations.

In addition to daily lab operations, expected to carry out specific tasks at the laboratory bench to enable the broader mission of the lab. These studies will require the candidate to be highly engaged and proactive in a dynamic research environment in a highly collaborative environment.

Also, serves as a point person to train incoming graduate students and postdoctoral fellows on fundamental approaches in molecular biology and protein biochemistry.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Four years of recent/directly related work experience
  • BA/BS in a related science; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact productively with lab and campus personnel
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and work under deadlines with general guidance
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills to accurately complete detailed work
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory practices and safety
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications
  • Team player
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pound
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with protein biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Experience with tissue culture
  • Lab management skills
