We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Laser Process Engineer to join our R&D and Manufacturing Engineering teams. This role is responsible for the support of advanced laser-based processes used in production of the R3 Vascualr's polymeric bioresorbable scaffolds. The staff process engineer is a person with high energy, ownership, integrity, and accountability who will drive project planning, development and implementation of state-of-the-art laser-based processes and related manufacturing equipment that enable production of next-generation products. The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing performance, and ensuring robust, scalable, and cost-effective manufacturing solutions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, operate, and maintain in-house proprietary laser processes and systems from concept to full implementation.
- Lead communications with laser system manufacturers to identify and evaluate emerging technologies for integration into R3 Vascular's manufacturing operations.
- Investigate and implement optimal laser systems that meet functional, safety, documentation, validation requirements, and industry standards.
- Perform experimental investigations to examine and characterize laser-assisted material processing.
- Direct and perform development and validation activities on manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and maintenance as required.
- Implement, support, and monitor proper safety procedures.
- Provide technical leadership on system design and integration with manufacturing equipment.
- Assist in creating and managing system specifications and schedules that best support company and department goals.
- Establish and manage external resources (system integrators and vendors) in the planning and execution of laser process and equipment projects.
- Support quality and internal/external audits as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Minimum Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, or related field.
Track record of problem-solving in both R&D and high-volume manufacturing environments.
Proficiency in statistical methods (DOE, SPC, FMEA) and data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab, MATLAB).
Strong understanding of the fundamentals of laser-material interaction (e.g., ablation, melting, surface structuring, multi-photon absorption, thermal effects).
Strong hands-on skills in designing and conducting laser processing experiments and analyzing results.
Proven experience with laser process development and recipe optimization (e.g., minimizing heat-affected zone).
Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and laser programming software.
Knowledge of laser safety regulations and procedures.
Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt in a high-paced environment.
