Position Summary

This position reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for supporting the strategic objectives of the Director of Accounting, and accounting department in internal and external financial reporting and compliance to include, but not limited to, balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, and various individual accounting analysis and reviews. This position requires flexibility and willingness to work as a team in order to complete all applicable tasks as well as the completion of other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibility

Support the department in the completion of all tasks through effective teamwork:
  • Promotes team environment while meeting departmental goals.
  • Mentors and trains staff accountants and new hires on existing and evolving policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Initiates and accomplishes special projects as assigned by the Assistant Controller.
  • Adheres to all generally accepted points of the accounting creed, philosophy, and best practices.
Influence and further the understanding of Company finances and accounting processes:
  • Provides analyzed and synthesized information to management required in both short-term and long-term decision-making.
  • Communicates necessary informational and regulatory policies and procedures with other departments and branch operations in order to ensure the accuracy of financial statements and reports.
Drive and manage all accounting processes to completion within the allocated timeline:
  • Performs and monitors monthly close-through completion of financial statements.
  • Engages in the timely review and evaluation of balance sheet and income statement accounts and analysis.
Job Responsibilities Cont.
  • Prepares and posts accrual and prepaid calculations.
  • Reviews department information for reasonableness, completeness, and compliance for budgetary comparisons while collaborating with FP&A department to obtain assumptions utilized in the budget/forecast process.
  • Initiates and drafts year end financial statements and footnote disclosures.
  • Facilitates timely processing of all general ledger transactions and subsidiary ledger adjustments, including Fortuna Credit.
  • Engages and accomplishes audits as needed.
  • Prepares new sequel reports or any other database or technology driven report to support and enhance performance and continuous improvement..
Maintain the effectiveness of the department and recommend process improvements where needed:
  • Communicate issues, status, and accomplishments to Assistant Controller regarding areas of responsibility in a timely manner.
  • Monitors, reviews, and implements policies and procedures necessary to support and provide accurate and timely reporting.
  • Utilize independent judgment to recommend and initiate process improvements.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and record retention of accounting reports and missives for compliance and organizational performance purposes.
Education Required

BA in Accounting or other business-related BA/BS degree.

Experience Required

Four - six years of relevant accounting experience required with GAAP accounting experience and/or Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred. IFRS accounting experience a plus.

Knowledge Required

Excellent written and verbal communications skills; adaptability and flexibility to changing environment; and comfortable working in a dynamic, high volume, fast-paced environment. Ability to understand and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and laws governing our industry/business and products.
Ability to read, write, appropriately evaluate datasets to ensure data integrity and governance. Ability to interact professionally and exhibit appropriate social skills. Ability to develop and maintain business relationships. Solid understanding of accounting principles, excellent computer skills, excellent analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to work with minimal supervision required.

Skills: Intermediate excel, intermediate sequel, BI and Analytics tools familiarity.

Physical Requirements
