Job Description


Worthington Industries is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Building Products team. The Senior Accountant supports business unit management

functional leads

and senior accounting staff with financial reporting and analysis under limited supervision. This includes the income statement

balance sheet

and other financial reports. In addition

the position will provide support and guidance in financial forecasting

monthly closing

fixed asset expenditure requests and tracking

physical inventory reconciliations

and other general accounting duties. The person in this position will get the opportunity to gain exposure to various areas of the business and different levels of management. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated with a self-starter mentality and this individual should aspire to grow within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • General Ledger - Responsible for activities associated with maintaining complete and accurate general ledger account balances and the resultant financial statements
reconciles sub-ledger to general account

reviews general ledger accounts

completes journal entries

and maintains the general ledger chart of accounts. Identifies ways to streamline month-end close process.
  • Research & Analysis - Performs analysis of balance sheets
income statements and cash flows for respective department and/or business unit. Analyze areas requiring a high degree of estimates and subjectivity. Research proper treatment of accounting topics and prepares recommendations. Serves as plant/functional area liaison related to improving earnings and/or processes. Performs root cause analysis.
  • Capital Planning and Appropriation - Responsible for supporting the Capital Appropriation Requests process including tracking of on-going projects including communication with plant personnel and project managers.
  • Financial Planning - Provide various inputs into the forecasting process based on trends and analysis of past results and future expectations.
  • Tax Accounting & Planning - Provides tax data and information to tax department and answers questions related to tax data for sales
use taxes

and personal property taxes.
  • Leads or supervises interns and junior accounting staff.
Desired Experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree in accounting/finance
MBA or CPA a plus
  • 3 Years or more of accounting/finance work experience; public accounting a plus
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office
plus expert Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and work as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills (mathematical
statistical

etc.)
  • Possess the ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to identify
breakdown

and root-cause moderate to complex problems and issues.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly and succinctly in verbal and written format.
  • Advanced understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Intermediate understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Standards (SOX)
