JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Splunk Developer will represent the Infrastructure Applications group within IT\'s Workplace and Infrastructure Services department. The Infrastructure Applications team provides multiple services to the enterprise, including database technologies, application/infrastructure monitoring, and batch processing, among others.

While this position will be filled with a focus on Splunk and other monitoring/observability technologies, the developer role will be expected to maintain familiarity and proficiency with other technologies and processes supported by the team in order to provide backup to other team members as needed.

The developer\'s primary responsibility is to improve reliability of key business functions by using Splunk Enterprise to improve observability. The developer will be a Splunk Enterprise power user, developing and maintaining dashboards, reports, alerts, and knowledge objects.

Working closely with other teams in a multi-vendor, multi-shore environment, the developer must help to foster cooperation between teams to solve complex problems and continuously improve customer experience.

This position will require direct and frequent communication with solution architects and other internal customers to gather requirements, deliver solutions, and provide on-going support. The ideal candidate will possess strong oral and written communication skills with a desire for continuous learning and improvement.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop Splunk reports, dashboards, and alerts to meet requirements of key stakeholders.
  • Gather requirements and propose solution options.
  • Maintain existing dashboards, alerts, data models, and other knowledge objects.
  • Actively participate in cross-team investigations to identify gaps in observability and propose solutions to close those gaps. This will include after-hours support for high priority issues.
  • Champion the use of our monitoring/observability tools throughout our environment.
  • Prepare detailed documentation of any custom-developed solutions.
  • Follow ITIL processes for incident, change, problem, and vulnerability resolution.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position.
Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent work experience required.

Minimum experience required of the position

6+ years of related professional experience is required
  • Experience with splunk engineering or support in an enterprise environment is a plus
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
  • Proficiency in SPL development - creating dashboards, reports and knowledge objects.
  • Strong knowledge of Splunk development best practices.
  • Proficiency in tuning Splunk searches, reports, and dashboards.
  • Extremely strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Programming experience (e.g., Python, Shell, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize and manage workload in a remote environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse and remote teams.
  • Experience in project delivery in highly outsourced environments.
  • Proven ability to communicate and build relationships with internal customers.
  • Ability to communicate on a technical and logical level to internal teams and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
  • The following skills and technologies are considered a strong plus:
  • ServiceNow experience
  • Experience working with ITIL methodologies
  • Process automation experience
  • Experience with Broadcom/CA toolsets (e.g., DX AIOps, NetOps, Spectrum, UIM, Nimsoft, DX APM, etc.)
  • Application Performance Monitoring (APM) experience
  • Experience with development, support, or monitoring within major cloud platform(s) (e.g., AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Splunk platform administration experience (e.g., design, installation, index management, etc.)
  • Experience with TIBCO products (e.g., BW, BWCE, APIX, Mashery, BE, MFT, etc.)
  • Experience with other Splunk Observability products
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
  • Continuous Improvement methodologies or certifications
  • Any Splunk certifications
