Wage Range: $43.26 - $69.22 plus additional per diem rate
Posted wage ranges represent the entire range from minimum to maximum. Job Summary:
Responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients requiring speech language therapy services in the areas of swallowing, communication (inclusive of speech, language, and voice) cognition, and preventive care. Responsible for timely provision of skilled care and accurate documentation of care provided. This position will provide individual treatments, work closely with the interdisciplinary team staff, and participate in program development. May work with clients from neonate through adolescence who present with a variety of diagnoses.
Primary Duties:

  • Performs individualized evaluation and ongoing assessment related to the patient
  • Develops treatment goals, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, that are time specific and result in discharge of the patient to their home environment while attaining the highest level of function possible.
  • Develops the treatment plan and revises as necessary based on the goals set by the interdisciplinary team in coordination with the physician, the patient, and the family.
  • Assumes responsibility for instruction and supervision of Therapy Aides in patient care activities as appropriate within hospital policies and procedures and medical regulations.
  • Develops an individualized, family focused treatment plan based on the initial evaluation data of the NICU or pediatric patient and in conjunction with both the family and interdisciplinary team. This treatment plans to outline program goals and objectives, methods by which goals and objectives are to be addressed, and timelines projected to meet said goals and objectives.
  • NICU-Treatment Intervention: Provides treatment based on the individualized interdisciplinary treatment plan and established priorities. Treatment to include, although not limited to, strategies to assist the neonate/infant with self-regulation of physical state, pre-feeding activities such as non-nutritive suck and oral stimulation, strategies to increase bottle and breastfeeding proficiency, parent/family/staff education regarding optimal handling and positioning of the neonate/infant with emphasis on feeding, and activities that promote prelinguistic and socio-communicative skills.
  • NICU-Communication: Demonstrates the ability to communicate with and counsel family members. Participates in conferences on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to discuss patient's challenges, goals, progress, and on-going discharge plans per interdisciplinary team expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
License, Certification, Education or Experience:
REQUIRED for the position:
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Experience in administering and analyzing Modified Barium Swallow Studies
  • 1 year of NICU experience or 2 years of inpatient pediatric experience
  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology as granted by ASHA or working towards completion of a Clinical Fellowship Year
  • Current Speech-Language Pathology License as issued by the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS - American Heart Association by start date
  • Knowledge and training in the special needs of patients from neonate to adolescence and is responsible for the needs associated with these groups.
DESIRED for the position:
  • 2 years of experience in a NICU, including evaluating and treating neonates/infants across the full spectrum of physical, communicative and cognitive development
  • Membership in a professional organization
  • Certification in area of specialty
  • Current NRP certification
