Specialist - Behavioral Health Support (BS)

Location: Bloomington Hospital

Shift: Full-Time Days : Monday-Fridays

Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Support Specialist to assist patients requiring behavioral health services in coordination with primary care and licensed behavioral health clinicians. This role offers an opportunity to support patients' mental health needs while working within a multidisciplinary team committed to compassionate, patient-centered care.

Position Overview:

The Specialist will:

Provide behavioral health support and facilitate patient involvement in treatment and education Serve as a liaison among medical staff, nursing staff, patients, families, and outside agencies Conduct mental health triage of patients upon provider referral Identify psychosocial risk factors by evaluating prior functioning, support systems, reactions to illness, and coping abilities, under supervision of licensed behavioral health professionals Perform individual, group, and family behavioral health interventions using evidence-based models appropriate for the level of care and staffing Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure timely, safe, and resourceful care delivery Assist with utilization review and discharge planning through clinical supervision and staffing with licensed clinicians Act as a point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elder abuse, domestic violence, and institutional abuse Serve as liaison with child and adult protective services (APS/CPS) and community agencies

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related mental health field required. Licensure:

o LBSW in alignment with Indiana state code IC 25-23.6-4-1 required for Bachelor's in Social Work.
o Other relevant mental health licenses preferred.Experience: 0-3 years in healthcare, mental health, or community-based settings preferred. Certifications:

o Crisis Intervention certification may be required.
o BLS certification may be required.Skills & Knowledge:

o Therapeutic interventions based on multidisciplinary collaboration
o Facilitation of psycho-educational groups
o Knowledge of state and county legal mandates for protective services
o Principles of growth and development across the lifespan
o Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
o Ability to create a safe, therapeutic environment and instruct daily activities
o Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
o Strong relationship-building skills with community organizations, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare teams
