Job Summary

Provide collaborative leadership for the Public Services department of the Library Services at the South City Campus Library. This includes supervising part-time staff; conducting hiring, training, and performance evaluations; overseeing as well as performing circulation duties. The Supervisor will help set the tone and example for providing a welcome environment to students, staff, faculty, and the community while ensuring smooth daily operations. Oversee the annual Spring collection inventory process. This includes collaboration with branch Supervisors to create timeline, implementation, running reports, and creating a final stakeholder report. Lead collaborative effort with other Supervisors to update all departmental training documents in print and online. Review and maintenance of documentation will be conducted on an ongoing basis for Public Services employees and Supervisors. This position will work closely with the Student and Success Librarian to implement outreach strategies at South campus.

Supervise part-time Circulation staff including hiring, scheduling, training, evaluating, and supporting professional development for employees. Model exemplary customer service for employees by performing circulation operations including serving students, faculty, staff, and the community. Provide basic Reference services at the desk by phone or online as needed. Provide training to library staff and patrons in the use of library resources, promotion of library events and services, and research skills. Communicate clearly and timely with part-time Circulation staff regarding changes, updates and issues in policies and procedures. Lead collaborative effort with other Supervisors to update all departmental training documents in print and online. Review and maintenance of documentation will be conducted on an ongoing basis for Public Services employees and Supervisors. Communicate effectively and respectfully with other library branch Supervisors to ensure alignment with Public Service policies, procedures, updates, and changes. Within the guidelines and framework established by the Student Success Librarian, work with South library staff to build and develop relationships with South City Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) departments beyond the library. Outreach and relationship building with other departments are intended to encourage collaboration and promote library services amongst students, staff, and faculty. Oversee the organization of the physical collection and stacks management. This includes preparing materials for circulation and coordinating the inventory of the physical collection at all branches. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Familiarity with SLCC Policies and Procedures. Understanding of Library Policies and Procedures. Knowledge of Reserve policies and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to conduct Circulation department operations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of Copyright law and Fair Use guidelines. Demonstrated ability to use library automated systems such as Symphony, online circulation systems, public access systems, and library databases. Knowledge of student information systems such as Banner. Knowledge of and ability to use library classification systems including Library of Congress. Familiarity with the MARC cataloging format. Demonstrated supervisory skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and activities. Ability to train others in the use of library systems and materials. Ability to ensure high level of customer service. Basic research skills. Basic cashiering and money handling skills. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Effective organizational, management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work under minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications

Associate degree or equivalent education (60 education credits).
