Responsibilities
The Translational Neuroproteomics Laboratory, directed by Dr. Wilfried Rossoll, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented project associate to join our team in the Department of Neuroscience. Our group investigates how abnormal protein aggregation drives neurodegenerative diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and related proteinopathies.
Our research combines state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based proteomics, advanced fluorescence microscopy, and a range of molecular and cellular approaches to define the molecular composition of disease-associated protein aggregates. We focus primarily on TDP-43 and tau, key pathological proteins in ALS, FTD, and AD, while also studying related aggregates such as ?-synuclein in Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. By identifying molecular drivers and modifiers of aggregation, our goal is to uncover new therapeutic targets and develop strategies to slow or prevent disease progression.
Using insights gained from proteomic and mechanistic studies, our team conducts experiments in cellular and animal models to determine how aggregates form, spread, and cause toxicity. These studies directly support our broader mission of developing and validating therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative proteinopathies.
