We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Aide to support students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive educational environment. This role is vital in assisting a child in the classroom to ensure the child receives appropriate support to thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education, experience working with children with developmental disabilities, and excellent communication skills. Prior experience with special education strategies, behavior management, and curriculum development is highly valued. Hours for this position are 8:15am-12:15pm Monday-Friday. This is a temporary position, after 2 months the hours will start to decrease. We do have another clients in Beaver Dam looking for care as well so we can be flexible to make the schedules work together for the right candidate.
Duties
Implementing individualized service plans (ISP) for students with disabilities.
Support students with down syndrome, developmental disabilities, or other special needs through tailored instructional activities.
Help facilitate classroom management and behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors.
Provide one-on-one support to encourage peer engagement with other children.
Use American Sign Language or other communication methods to support non-verbal or minimally verbal students when applicable.
Support students during classroom activities, transitions, and social interactions to promote engagement and independence.
Ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that respects each student's unique abilities and needs.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, parents, and other staff members to monitor student progress and adapt strategies accordingly.
Experience
Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings is preferred.
Knowledge of early childhood development
Experience working specifically with children who have down syndrome, developmental disabilities, or other special needs is highly desirable.
Familiarity with classroom management techniques, redirection and behavior management strategies
Proficiency in American Sign Language or alternative communication methods is a plus.
