OFFICIAL TITLE:

Educational Translation & Interpretation Services SpecialistSUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the direction of the Executive Director of Educational Access and Pathways manages translation and interpretation serves throughout he District. We seek candidates who are dedicated to inclusion and have a clear interest in being part of the richness of diversity that the New Bedford Public Schools community has to offer.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Coordinate all requests for translations and/or interpretations in the district2.Maintain list of and availability of translators and interpreters3.Manage schedule of interpreters for schools and family events4.Manage monthly reports and ensure timely submission of payroll 5.Audit information in documents for accuracy6.Serves as emergency/substitute interpreter/translator when needed7.Ensure all district materials are available in multiple languages for online, print, or oral distribution8.Work with the schools and central office departments to ensure that all materials are translated prior to distribution.9.Assess needs of district to develop plan for service as well as anticipated budget impact.10.Monitor state and federal guidelines to ensure compliance11.Manage translation vendor services12.Performs related duties as needed13.Performs work as directed by Superintendent, Executive Director of Educational Access and Pathways or designeeEDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 1.Interpreter Certificate preferred2.Multi lingual, Spanish preferred3.Minimum of 3 years experience providing translation services in Educational setting preferred4.Experience working with staff from diverse cultures5.Strong verbal communication skills The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

SALARY RANGE: $25-$28 per hourHOURS PER WEEK: 40 hours per weekPHYSICAL DEMANDS: (NO requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing) OVERTIME ELIGIBLE: YESWORK YEAR: 12 monthsREPORTS TO: Executive Director of Educational Access and Pathways
