SUMMARY: This position provides a space savvy professional capable of providing a high level of consulting service, primarily in orbital and ground hazards, to the Space Safety activities in Air Force Safety Center, Space Safety Division in Albuquerque, New Mexico. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops Air Force level programs and policies related to Space Safety.
  • Provides the Government with recommended updates to space safety related Air Force Manuals and Air Force Instructions and other instructions and manuals depending upon publication cycles for incorporation.
  • Provides launch hazard support including interfacing with Launch Space Wings on proactive Space Safety program initiatives; providing HAF (Headquarters, Air Force) level support for launch risk management assessments and HAF level support for Expectation of Casualty calculations for launch events.
  • Provides ground hazard support by interfacing with Ground-Based Space Wings on proactive Space Safety program initiatives
  • Provides on-orbit support though interface with Orbital Space Wings on proactive Space Safety program initiatives, providing HAF(Headquarters, Air Force) level support to orbital risk management assessments and making recommendations to the Government for implementing safety policy and guidance for orbital operations, e.g. collision avoidance, orbital debris creation, cube-satellites.
  • Manages the On-Orbit Hazard Identification and Mitigation Program
  • Interface as necessary with DoD, Civil, Commercial, Academic, and International partners, to fulfill meeting assigned objectives and travel as necessary.
  • Travel is occasional or infrequent.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Space and Space Safety experience - (satellite operations, space domain awareness, launch/range)5-years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the space community is required; 10-years or more is desired
  • Air Force/Space Force level policy experience
  • Training/education- instructor experience
  • Ability to obtain a DOD interim Secret Clearance/Active DOD Secret Clearance is preferred
  • Salary will be commensurate with the experience level of the candidate.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office
