HDR is currently seeing a Solid Waste Intern to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Resource Management professionals. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a team that executes technical design and provides construction observations for Resource Management facilities ranging from solid waste convenience centers, solid waste disposal, wastewater, and infrastructure. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a self-directed individual who is eager to learn and take on new challenges.
As an intern, you'll offer real-world experience on exciting projects and connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs. The primary duties of an Environmental Engineering Intern include preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and designs for projects under the direction and supervision of senior engineers and designers.
Duties may include:
Work under the direction of Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s)
Conduct analyses to develop design options, perform modeling and/or calculations, and prepare design sketches and concept drawings
Work with Designers and CAD Technicians to develop construction drawings in accordance with design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements.
Participate in field reviews or construction observations
Typical designs include grading, erosion control, stormwater management, stability calculations, and quantity estimates. Design must also consider environmental permitting, and construction requirements.
Occasional short-term travel to project sites (typically 1-5 days) with supporting team members may be necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering with 3.0+ GPA
Knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS is a plus
Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate environmental science, biology, environmental Engineering or related program
Attention to detail
Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
Basic Microsoft Office skills
