About the Role
The City of Anderson is seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Intern to join our Marketing and Communications team. This internship is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in social media management with a focus on content creation (photo, video, and graphics). The intern will help showcase the people, places, and events that make Anderson thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Capture engaging photos and videos at City events, programs, and around downtown Anderson
Edit and prepare media for social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
Assist with planning, scheduling, and posting content
Create graphics, templates, and branded content aligned with the City's visual identity
Brainstorm and pitch creative content ideas to highlight city initiatives and community stories
Monitor trends and suggest ways to keep content fresh and engaging
Support general communications and marketing projects as needed
Qualifications
Required:
Current student (college or high school senior) or recent graduate in communications, marketing, media, graphic design, or related field preferred
Interest in social media, photography, graphic design, and video production
Basic editing skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools a plus)
Creative, detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or on a team
Comfortable interacting with the public professionally
Preferred:
Experience managing social media accounts for school, organization, or business
Familiarity with social media analytics and scheduling tools
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based, with occasional off-site events
May require lifting and carrying equipment such as cameras or tripods
