Job Summary

Sign On Bonus

This position is eligible for a bonus of up to $15,000!

CLINICAL LAB ASSISTANT:
Performs phlebotomy and other collection procedures for analysis or other medical purposes. Verifies patient identity. Orders tests, processes patient specimens, and performs quality control. May perform registration, courier or clerical duties
depending on location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs phlebotomy and other collection procedures appropriately and according to established procedures.

2. Performs specialized collection procedures such as urine drug collections and PPD\'s if required.

3. Greets and registers the patient by obtaining patient demographics, billing/insurance information, Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN), collecting
co-payments, etc. as needed.

4. Processes requisitions and enters test orders into the computer system. Performs inquiry functions, specimen transport verification, and retrieves
and prints collection labels.

5. Receives, processes and/or stores specimens as appropriate, centrifuging, splitting, acidifying, aliquoting, measuring and stabilizing. Ensures that
information on the requisition matches labels and that tests ordered are in compliance with physician or clients\' requests. Ensures that each test requested is allocated to the proper department, inside or outside of the lab. Performs biohazard disposal as needed or appropriate.

6. Depending on location, may serve as a courier, runner or materials handler.

7. Orders and maintains supplies and inventory.

LAB ASSISTANT:
Works under general supervision. Primary duties include preparation of patient specimens, loading instruments., order entry, or clerical duties depending on location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following functions are performed as appropriate to location.
1. Performs basic maintenance and function checks.
2. Performs basic processing and order entry.
3. Perform basic clerical functions.
4. Inventory, order and maintain supplies.
5. Load instruments.

Minimum Qualifications: CLINICAL LAB ASSISTANT:
MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Must meet one of the following:
  • Completion of a relevant phlebotomy training program
  • Three (3) months to two (2) years phlebotomy experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Depending on location, may require a grade of average of the alphanumeric
typing test. (4,000 - 5,999 key strokes).
PREFERENCES:
PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification

LAB ASSISTANT:
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
  • H.S. diploma or equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
  • No experience is required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to type at least 25- wpm.
IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS:
Prove immunity to Hepatitis B or be immunized or sign a waiver refusing hepatitis immunization. Provide documentation of a PPD test conducted not more than 90 days prior to date of hire or have a PPD test conducted.

IN DEPARTMENTS/LOCATIONS WITH DIRECT PATIENT CONTACT: Prove immunity or be eligible to receive rubella, rubeola and varicella immunization. Obtain annual influenza (flu) vaccination where required by location or if exempted from or declined influenza vaccination, must wear surgical mask during influenza season.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be on call as needed or required.
2. Demonstrate effective telephone and verbal communication skills and professional judgment when dealing with clients, patients and co-workers.
3. Demonstrate leadership abilities.
4. Demonstrate competencies in laboratory information systems. Work holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed or required.
5. Eligible to work in a health care facility as provided by the New Mexico Caregivers Criminal History Screening Act or other applicable law
