The Shop Foreman/Dispatcher is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our shop and coordinating the dispatching of Knoxville trucks. This role involves managing the shop floor, collaborating with location managers to ensure efficient hauling of products, supervising employees, and maintaining inventory management. The successful candidate will ensure quality control and uphold a safe and efficient working environment by assigning tasks, providing training, monitoring production progress, and resolving operational issues in alignment with company policies and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Task Assignment:
Assign work tasks to shop personnel based on their skills and the requirements of ongoing projects.
Organize Trucking Operations:
Coordinate the trucking of grain, agronomy, feed, and road maintenance activities throughout the year, ensuring timely dispatch.
Employee Training:
Train and hire new shop employees and drivers, while providing ongoing skill development opportunities for existing staff members.
Schedule Management:
Ensure all trucks are dispatched on time each day and that driver services are efficiently completed.
Maintenance Oversight:
Identify and resolve maintenance and repair bottlenecks or quality issues, monitoring progress to achieve timely project completion.
Quality Inspections:
Inspect work in progress and completed projects to ensure they meet the required quality standards.
Compliance Management:
Complete necessary licensing, permits, and compliance items to ensure adherence to DOT regulations, including county registrations, IRP licenses, IFTA and UCR registrations, and overweight and oversize permits.
Fuel Management:
Order fuel as necessary and reconcile fuel logs to maintain accurate records.
Inventory Management:
Maintain accurate inventory levels of shop materials and supplies, and order necessary materials and parts to support maintenance and repair needs.
Reporting:
Generate reports on maintenance and repair metrics, employee performance, and overall operations.
Documentation Maintenance:
Keep accurate records of work orders, repair logs, quality control documentation, and project details.
Process Improvement:
Implement new processes or procedures aimed at improving efficiency within the shop.
Interdepartmental Coordination:
Collaborate with other departments to ensure a smooth workflow and communication.
Quality Control:
Identify and address any quality defects in operations.
Employee Scheduling:
Maintain employee schedules and ensure adequate staffing to meet shop demands.
Performance Evaluation:
Evaluate employee performance, addressing any issues in a constructive manner to promote growth.
Safety Enforcement:
Enforce all safety protocols and promote a culture of safety awareness among staff.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in business management or a related field is preferred.
Proven experience in operations management or a similar role in a warehouse/shop environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements is essential.
Proficiency in inventory management and reporting software.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and resolve issues effectively.
