Job Description

The Shop Foreman plays a crucial role in our facility's effective management and operation. Reporting to the Fleet and Facility Manager, the Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of our shop, including supervising technicians, monitoring work progress, coordinating parts and supplies, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards, and participating in equipment maintenance and repair. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to ensure optimal shop performance.

Key Responsibilities



Shop Management:



Oversee all shop operations and ensure efficient utilization of resources. This working foreman will lead by example, provide guidance, and support the team while actively participating in equipment servicing and diagnosing. Supervise, train, and mentor a team of technicians to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to best practices. Coordinate work schedules and assignments to meet goals and deadlines. Using our maintenance computer programs, maintain accurate records of work orders, repairs, and equipment maintenance.

Technician Training:



Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the technician team.

Work Activity Monitoring:



Monitor work progress and provide guidance to technicians to ensure timely completion of tasks. Conduct regular inspections to ensure quality control and adherence to established standards. Identify areas for improvement in workflow and efficiency and implement appropriate measures to enhance productivity.

Parts and Supplies Coordination:



Collaborate with the Fleet and Facility Manager to determine inventory needs and maintain an adequate supply of parts and materials. Assist with procurement, including researching suppliers, obtaining quotes, and placing orders. Track inventory levels, perform regular audits, and implement inventory control measures to minimize waste and loss.

Compliance and Safety:



Enforce all company policies, rules, and regulations to ensure a safe and productive work environment. promote and uphold safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to occupational health and safety guidelines.

Equipment Maintenance and Repair:



Demonstrate technical expertise by performing repairs and maintenance on equipment when necessary. Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues, develop repair plans, and execute repairs efficiently. Collaborate with technicians to provide guidance and support during complex repairs.


Qualifications and Skills:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training is preferred. Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a shop or maintenance environment. Knowledge of International trucks/Cummins motors preferred. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team. Proficient in managing schedules, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines. Attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining high-quality standards. Familiarity with inventory management and procurement processes. Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to promote a culture of safety. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
