Responsible for preparing/modifying wood doors specific to the instructions of each order. Some preparations require permanently joining metal parts using high heat application to form a permanent bond. Others require the use of power tools such as circular saws, jig saws, drills, and sanders.
Essential Functions
Utilizing measuring tools to mark and prepare the material
Using saws, drills, and other power tools to create the necessary finished product
Remove any rough edges created during the modification process
Use electrical currents to create heat and bond metals
Join beams in the construction of metal frame pieces
Weld materials such as steel and titanium
Use a rod and heat to join metals
Operate welding machine that feeds wire to bond materials
Use molten metal to join two pieces of metal
Plan work by interpreting shop orders
Select and set up welding equipment
Ensure welds meat standards and specifications
Package finished product for transport
Interpret scope of work from documents detailing tasks to be completed
Wear appropriate safety equipment at all times
Assist Shop Manager as required
Other relative duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
Current and valid US driver's license preferred
At least 1 year prior experience in a fast paced production/manufacturing environment preferred
Must pass pre-employment background check or drug test.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of warehouse manufacturing
Must be able to work as a team and at times independently
Must be able to follow directions
Work in a fast-paced environment, completing multiple duties with accuracy, shifting from one to another with frequent interruptions and competing deadlines
Exercise sound judgment, work independently and prioritize with minimal supervision
Must have basic hand and power tools including: hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, and cordless drills
Knowledge of proper safety practices when handling products, tools and power equipment
Ability to read and interpret basic mathematical measurements and effectively read and use a tape measure
Must be able to work overtime as needed
Must have reliable transportation to and from work
Detail-oriented
Ability to report to work on time
Physical Demands
This position requires physical activity consistent with a construction or installation environment. The employee will spend more than two-thirds of their time standing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. Approximately one-third of the time may be spent walking and engaging in verbal communication or listening. Frequent lifting and moving of materials weighing between 25 and 50 pounds is required.
Work Environment
This role may involve travel to project sites and exposure to a variety of environmental conditions. These may include outdoor weather, proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery, and the use of hand tools or hardware. Employees may be subject to frequent heavy lifting and other physical demands typical of a construction or warehouse environment.
