Position Overview:

The Shop Assistant is an essential member of the Metal Fab Guys team, responsible for supporting the shop's daily operations. This role requires an individual with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a willingness to learn the metal fabrication industry. The Shop Assistant will handle general shop duties, assist fabricators, and maintain a clean and safe working environment, and contribute to smooth workflow and production.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling: Assist in receiving, organizing, and preparing raw materials for fabrication. Transport materials and components throughout the shop as needed. Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all tools and equipment are cleaned and stored properly. Conduct routine maintenance checks and report any issues. Shop Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized workspace by performing daily cleanup of work areas, floors, and equipment. Assist Fabricators: Provide support to fabricators and machinists by setting up workstations, handing tools, and organizing parts. Quality Assurance: Perform quality checks on fabricated items under the supervision of a designated staff member to ensure specifications are met. Inventory Management: Assist in tracking inventory levels and notifying the Procurement Manager when materials or supplies are running low. Safety Compliance: Follow all company safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment by wearing required protective gear and reporting hazards. Additional Tasks: Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors to support shop operations.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. Experience: Prior experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment is a plus. Experience in warehouse operations using attention to detail in every order by sorting, packaging, and delivery is a plus.

Requirements:

Valid driver's license and a clear MVR. Must be 18 years or older. Positive attitude to support an amazing team.

The Shop Assistant will work in a busy manufacturing environment with exposure to metalworking machinery, noise, and physical activities. Strong physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs). The physical ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.

Skills:

Previous experience in delivery driving, metalwork, warehouse, or manufacturing settings is a plus, but we're open to training the right individual who is eager to grow in a hands-on environment. Basic understanding of shop tools and equipment. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
