The Shipping Coordinator oversees the shipment of goods from one location to another. This job is vital in the distribution center, as it ensures that products are delivered on time and in good condition. The Shipping Coordinator releases and manages orders, assists in the management of inventory, keeps track of shipments, communicates with carriers, and resolves issues that may arise during the shipping process.
This job requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as attention to detail. Shipping Coordinators should have a solid understanding of logistics, transportation regulations, and customer service. They may also be responsible for arranging transportation, negotiating rates, and preparing documentation such as bills of lading and customs forms.
To qualify for this role, candidates should have previous experience in Warehouse Supervision, shipping, logistics, or a related field. Strong computer skills and the ability to work under pressure are also essential. A Shipping Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Transportation industry.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Run allocation and distribute orders to the warehouse team.
Coordinate daily shipping operations and ensure timely deliveries.
Communicate with carriers, warehouses, and customers to track shipments and resolve any issues.
Prepare shipping documents, including bills of lading and shipping labels.
Schedule pickup and delivery appointments and arrange transportation modes.
Monitor inventory levels and coordinate restocking when needed.
Maintain accurate records of shipments and inventory using computer systems.
Evaluate carrier performance and negotiate rates for freight shipments.
Ensure compliance with shipping regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
Address any customer inquiries or complaints related to shipping and logistics.
Collaborate with other departments, such as sales and accounting, to ensure smooth operations.
Any other duties as assigned
Experience and Education Requirements
Experience in shipping or logistics is required. Should have experience using a computer-based ERP system, (SAP and/or Oracle is preferred), as well as the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams) You should understand industry regulations, documentation requirements, and customs clearance procedures. Good communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for this job so you can communicate with suppliers, carriers, and customers. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously are also important for success in this role.
The shift is 4AM - 12:30PM Monday - Friday with daily / weekend overtime scheduled as needed.
