R.W Mercer Co. is a family-owned construction and service company headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, with seven locations - six in Michigan and one in Indiana. The company operates in distinct areas of construction: petroleum contracting and service & general contracting. In each area, R.W. Mercer provides a turn-key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance.



R.W. Mercer is seeking a reliable individual with a positive attitude and strong work ethic to join our team as a Petroleum Equipment Technician. We are excited to train an individual with basic mechanical and technical skills, prefers to work with their hands and is savvy with electronics/ computers. Any IT/ Networking experience is a plus. This position offers multiple pay levels and development opportunities based on technical abilities and individual performance.



A Petroleum Equipment Technician performs many tasks including inspecting fueling sites to confirm all equipment is operating properly and the site is in compliance with state regulations. They also calibrate fuel dispensing equipment, diagnose and repair fuel dispensers, cash registers, submersible tank pumps, fuel tank monitoring equipment and system communications/networking connections.

Position Responsibilities:

Follow all company safety practices and procedures according to applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and requirements. Communicate with all customers, fellow employees, and inspectors in a professional manner. Travel to our customer sites in a company provided vehicle to perform compliance inspections, maintenance, and repair of refueling equipment and installation of new equipment when requested. Utilize various testing devices, multiple hand and power tools related to the job. Maintain tools and equipment to ensure all are in proper and safe working order. After completing assignments, make sure all paperwork/forms are completed and submitted in a timely manner. Provide the Service Coordinator with the information necessary to quickly process work orders and customer invoices. Utilize R.W. Mercer's mobile field application and customer's third-party portals as necessary. Train customers on any new equipment you install for them. Ensure proper care and maintenance of company vehicles, tools, and equipment. Work closely with the Service and Inventory Managers to ensure your company van is properly stocked and the inventory accuracy level remains high. Return all parts replaced to the inventory department so they can determine if they are covered under warranty or need to be returned to the vendor to be rebuilt. Perform any other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Valid driver's license and a good driving record. Eligible to work in the United States. Basic mechanical and technical skills. Basic trouble shooting and computer skills. Able and willing to occasionally travel and stay out of town. Able and willing to work outside in all weather conditions. Able and willing to participate in the on-call rotation in the evenings and weekends. Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Field environment working conditions: exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to possible hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery and uneven surfaces; may be required to work up to 15 hours.

Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an environment: walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach and twist; push, pull, lift and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights of up-to 75 pounds.
