The Avionics Summer Engineering Project Program (SEPP) is our elite summer studentship established in 1995. Business relevant projects from various directorates are selected to support research, on campus partnerships, and introduce students to engineering rigor and challenges. During the summer, interns will work with their manager and technical mentor to defined a project plan and reach scoped milestones. The Systems Engineering Avionics Fusion IPS group at Collins Aerospace is seeking an intern with Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related background to join their team for this special opportunity this summer! The IPS team is responsible for the design, integration, development, certification, deployment and sustaining of our Avionics Systems on Bombardier large business jets through the lifecycle of the programs. The platforms supported include more than 500 fielded aircraft for the Global 5000, 5500, 6000, 6500 and 7500x00/6x00/7500 programs.

The candidate will participate in the development life cycle of hardware design and software integration of an Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) architecture for large size Business Jets as part of a Systems Engineering group. This is an on-site position involving Hardware Design, Network Interfaces, PCI connectivity, and FPGA programming incorporating IP cores running RTOS. The candidate will collaborate with internal groups and external suppliers conducting trade studies to make recommendations on part selection, architecture solutions, and prototyping. Candidates will gain experience in the process of documenting designs, provide periodic reporting, status, and demos to engineering management and program leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:

Collaborates with internal groups and external suppliers conducting trade studies.

Makes recommendations on part selection and architecture solutions.

FPGA programming incorporating IP cores running RTOS, Network Interfaces, and PCI connectivity.

Documents design, prototypes and integrates solutions.

Provides periodic reporting, status, and demos to engineering management and program leadership.

Collaborates with engineers across multiple subsystems contributing toward a positive team working environment.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor\'s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum GPA of 3.5 of above

Students should be at junior or senior status by summer 2024

RTOS and Linux experience

Understanding of AFDX network

Experience prototyping FPGA solutions

Understanding of the incorporation of third-party IP libraries onto FPGA designs.

Understanding of networking and PCI bus interfaces

Problem Solving & Hands-On Troubleshooting abilities.
