About the :

The Division of Transit Services coordinates transit services in Montgomery County. Transit accomplishes an essential mobility mission of the County, connecting people, communities, workplaces, educational institutions, recreational opportunities, and many other essential destinations. The Division plans, schedules and manages the County\'s Ride On bus system consisting of County owned and operated buses. The Ride On system is designed to complement the service provided by the other transit providers in the County and provides almost 30 million trips per year. The Division also regulates the operation of taxicabs services in the County.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The Division of Transit Services seeks to fill a position. This position is a senior level position providing hands-on technical work within the Transit Electronic Systems unit

Duties include are not limited to the following:

  • Lead trainer and senior technician providing advanced level technical skills and resourcefulness for appropriate modifications of standard procedures of the Transit Electronic Systems unit.
  • Provides training oversight of other technicians as the skilled advanced trainer and leads the activities of other technicians in the unit.
  • Perform advanced level technical work, such as test, install, maintain, and repair electronics systems that are supported by the Transit Electronic Systems unit.
  • Determines the cause of transit information system failure and provides training in preventive maintenance, repair, and spare parts inventory database.
  • Oversee the quality assurance testing inspection of parts returned from vendors, parts repair, and refurbishment of equipment.
  • Develop and implement training plans to ensure Bus Operators and other employees are trained in system use.
  • Determines the cause of transit information system failure and provides training in preventive maintenance, repair, and spare parts inventory database.
  • Assist in the analysis of data for all electronic equipment. Make recommendations for system improvements and other leading-edge systems and sub-systems.
  • Act as a liaison between the department\'s divisions, management and contractors.
  • Drive a passenger bus, with air brakes, during training, movement around lots, demonstrations and operational emergencies.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN A CANDIDATE:
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of technological guidelines and the tools of the trade to install, maintain and repair equipment and to perform electronic and electro-mechanical duties.
  • Strong problem solving and follow up skills, detail oriented, and is able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship-building skill to work cross-functionally with all levels of employees and leadership.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position may occasionally require incumbent to work a flexible work schedule that may include working core work hours, as well as working flexible work hours (i.e. early morning, evening, and/or weekend work) to handle emergency situations, special events, inclement weather, etc.

The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee. Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

Medical & Background Investigation: Selected candidate(s) will be required to successfully complete a Medial Exam, Drug and Alcohol screen, and background investigation prior to appointment.

License Requirement: At the time of employment application: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver\'s license from the applicant\'s state of residence. Upon completion of the bus driver training by Montgomery County: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "B" (or equivalent) Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL), with air brakes and passenger endorsements, from the employee\'s state of residence.

To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with federal, state and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specified timeframe.

The anticipated salary range for hiring into this position is $59,263 - $76,624.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: An Associate of Arts Degree in electronics technology or a related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of creditable experience in the troubleshooting and installation of microprocessor-based electronic systems, revenue handling equipment or communication systems.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria

There are NO Preferred Criteria Assessments. All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:
  • Transit Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
  • Interpreting operating manuals, technical manuals, and specifications, manufacturer\'s maintenance instructions and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Experience with Ticket Vending Machine (TVM), Fareboxes, DVRs, Routers, Electronic Bus Signs, trouble shooting, and fixing them when possible and appropriate.
  • Supervising the work of junior technicians.
  • Managing supply and inventory.
  • Determining and prioritizing workload.
  • Performing quality assurance inspections in equipment installation and procedures.
