The salary range for this position is $71,000 -$88,500 (min - midpoint). New hires typically start between the range minimum and midpoint based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Who You Are
You are an experienced Accounting professional, well versed in the day-to-day accounting operations of a Finance Department, and eager to identify and implement operational improvements. In this role you will journalize accounting transactions, reconcile accounts, and actively participate in month- and year-end closings as well as internal and external audit preparation. With Gracious Professionalism\xc2\xae our ideal candidate will assist other finance team members with team registrations, phone calls, grant preparation and processing, mail, cash receipt entry, and A/P invoicing as needed.

FIRST headquarters is in Manchester, New Hampshire, and we seek candidates based in New England or willing to relocate to New England. Although this role will have the flexibility to work remote, we are looking for candidates who can easily and frequently travel by car to our headquarters.

What You Will Do
You will utilize your extensive accounting rules and regulations (US GAAP) knowledge as well as your working knowledge of IRS 501(c) charitable organization regulations as you:
  • Lead a wide range of project requests from both inside and outside the organization
  • Maintain accounting systems and proactively correct errors
  • Accurately track, manage, and reconcile both Federal and Non-Federal awards, grants, pass through funding, and Net Assets (with or without Grantor restrictions)
  • Submit quarterly and annual federal funding reports
  • Monitor spending, ensure correct coding, and prepare complicated monthly account reconciliations
  • Perform month- and year-end financial system closing processes
  • Consistently and continuously create, update, and maintain standard operating procedure documentation with an eye towards improvement
  • Prepare and maintain monthly fixed asset and depreciation schedules, adjusting for new capital expenditures and/or retired assets
What We Expect
We are seeking candidates with the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in accounting and at least 5 years of directly related experience; MBA and CPA preferred
  • Advanced Excel experience
  • Proficiency in Salesforce, Tableau, and NetSuite preferred
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent collaboration and people skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to travel ~5 - 10% depending on the time of the year
