Job purpose

The purpose of Alaska Garden and Pet Supply Senior Purchasing Manager is to facilitate the purchasing process and assist retail and wholesale departments within the Company. Assumes responsibility for implementing purchasing activities, maintaining data relating to purchasing and providing support to achieve purchasing goals and objectives for each department.

Duties and responsibilities

• Supervisor\'s duties included but not limited to organize, facilitate, and manage cross-functional teams to execute purchasing plans.
• Responsible for vendor inventory corrections and reports.
• Run daily fill rate reports and write out report.
• Set vendor lead times and minimum purchase requirements.
• Keep key items in stock by maintaining, and adjusting order levels.
• Set-up new vendors.
• Keep vendor price files current and process upcoming manufacturing price increases.
• Run vendor and dealer catalog sheets and process vendor price corrections.
• Process new items, create internal 30-character description, assign appropriate category codes. Verify proper format provided by manufacturer on internally used new item form.
• Communicate with Operations, Accounting, and Customer Service when Vendor/Product changes occur.
• Prepare purchase orders and track them to ensure that product will be delivered on time.
• Prepare financial results for sales, gross margin, and inventory levels for specific categories.
• Responsible for financial results by using provided KPI analyses to better understand the category and improve sales and margin.
• Performing invoice entry for product being received in warehouse. This may include working with vendors, accounting, and inventory control.
• Interact with vendors to negotiate cost, reach agreements, promotional programs, vendor funds and product. This could also include developing new sources where suppliers are inadequate.
• Create sales promotions to submit to the Marketing Manager and the Sales Team by the set deadlines.
• Keep up with current developments and trends.
• Good negotiation, written and oral communication skills are a must.
• Attend trade shows and deal professionally with vendors, distributors, and sale representatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associates or bachelors degree.
• 5+ years of Category Management Experience over multiple categories.
• Consolidation and Transportation Experience
• Commodity Purchasing Experience
• Strong computer skills must be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and adept at using formulas and building pivot tables.
• Excellent detail orientation and analytical skills to review facts, solve problems, and make educated decisions.
• Build strong internal and external relationships focused on value creation. Ability to be a team player.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, proceed with objectives with little or no supervision, and meet deadlines.
• Adjusts effectively to work within new work structures, processes, or requirements.
• Excellent verbal and strong negotiating skills
• Excellent time management with the ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
• Attention to detail, and organizational skills.

Physical Demands

• Requires standing and/or walking for long periods of time on hard surfaces.
• Requires ability to bend and stoop throughout the day.
• Requires ability to use arms and shoulders to lift and reach overhead, mid-level and low-level.
• Requires ability to climb stairs.
• Requires ability to lift and/or move items that weigh up to 50 lbs.

Working Relationship

Works closely with Vice President, President, Sales, and administration staff. Requires ability to work as a team player with all company management and employees.
