Position: Senior Principal Cloud Architect

The Role:
The Cloud Enablement organization is focused on ensuring that MetLife\'s IT teams are equipped with the best cloud practices to enable a quick time-to-market, high levels of scalability and an optimized cost model to provide best-in-class services for our customers and partners.

The Senior Principal Cloud Architect role will be responsible for enhancing out cloud strategy, setting up a more robust CCOE (Cloud Center of Excellence), driving to the right set of services in our Cloud Catalog, building patterns for each consumption by our development teams, and for ensuring that we are leveraging all the benefits of an on-demand cloud environment while keeping our costs low, and resiliency high.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evolve our cloud strategy to allow for ease of use of cloud services by application teams globally. This includes a more rigorous CCOE to help drive innovation in our cloud practice, while setting standards and governance of cloud usage across the globe
  • Develop and maintain a cloud catalog for all standard cloud services that are offered to dev teams, along with unit costs to help estimate start-up costs as well as run-rates
  • Help design foundational structures like Landing Zones, multi-tenancy usage and cost transparency in shared environments to allow Dev teams to be as autonomous as possible in their cloud usage
  • Develop patterns and application blueprints that allow for Dev teams to reuse standard designs and tie them into their DevOps pipelines for easy provisioning and management
  • Drive an automation mindset to all cloud services that are offered, and ensure that consumption of services is devoid of manual engagements or requests (as long as they conform to ML cloud standards)
  • Work with a cross-functional group of partners from Infrastructure, Security, CIO teams and business teams to drive modernization of MetLife\'s applications and services, by leveraging cloud practices as a catalyst
Key Relationships:

Reports to: VP, Platforms & Engineering

Key Stakeholders: CIO teams (application development); InfoSecurity; Enterprise Architecture; Global Infrastructure; Global Technology Services;

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in cloud and infrastructure engineering in a large enterprise
  • 5+ years of Experience with cloud service providers such as Azure (mandatory), AWS & GCP (preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with Azure services including subscription management, modern compute services (Kubernetes, serverless, functions), security functions for a regulated industry and data services, to name a few
  • Working knowledge of resiliency and disaster recovery patterns (HA, active-active, etc)
  • Experience in setting up a large-enterprise oriented FinOps practice
  • Ability to build, deliver, and operate complex cloud-native systems.
  • Proven Agile, Lean, DevSecOps/DevOps knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with focused attention to details.
  • Excellent professionalism and time/task management skills with ability to establish strong relationships.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to apply analysis to actionable insights.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership skills to motivate and inspire the team.
Preferred:
  • Background working in Financial Services, Insurance and/or Banking experience.
  • Hands-on technology driver who is motivated to create innovative solutions to unique problems.

The wage range for applicants for this position is $154,700 to $206,300. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives.
