The Metering Services and Engineering Department (MS&E) is responsible for the efficient management of 5 million electric meters and 4 million gas meters. It is accountable for ensuring safe, accurate and reliable meters and is part of the cross-functional team that delivers safe and reliable gas and electricity and provides accurate bills to our Customers. This department\xe2\x80\x99s objectives are achieved through strategic and operational meter asset planning, management, meter specifications, troubleshooting, repair, regulatory compliance, meter information support, and a focus on continuous improvement.

Position Summary

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.

Process, evaluate, and repair gas meters and regulators to assure proper function at a cost that is lower than purchasing new gas meters and regulators, thus reducing capital expenditures.

Conducts visual, auditory and mechanical inspection of gas meters/regulators to determine extent of repairs needed and to identify needed replacement parts; uses gauges, calipers, micrometers and manufacturer-specific testing tools to test and repair gas meters/regulators; uses computerized testing equipment to test gas meters/regulators; uses keyboard to document repairs; uses hand tools to access and perform minor and major repairs and adjustment to gas meters/regulators; uses hand tools and power tools to remove and replace worn or damaged parts; uses hoists and overhead cranes to position gas meters/regulators for repair; uses hand tools and power tools to repair and/or rebuild components that have been removed from all types of gas meters/regulators; inspects and adjusts components on gas meters/regulators to prevent premature failure of items; cleans and lubricates moving parts; conducts leak tests on gas meters/regulators, inspects gas meters/regulators to assure proper operation; operates parts washers, pressure washer and steam cleaner and uses rags and cleaning agents to clean components such as internal and external meter parts; may use palm sander to clean gaskets and surfaces on gas meters/regulators; properly labels, maintains and stores hazardous waste accumulation (rotary oil, asbestos gaskets, PCB oil); uses power tools and hand tools to disassemble, repair and re-assemble units, such as gas meters/regulators; uses grinder, sander, broom and rags to remove corrosion and rust from gas meters/regulators; uses solvents to remove oil and grease; prepares gas meters/regulators for painting; uses soldering torch or iron to solder and unsolder components on gas meter/regulators.

Conducts Quality Assurance on New Gas meters/Regulators

Must pass index reading test.

Operate a walk-along forklift to move gas meters/regulators; uses pallet jack to position equipment; uses hoist or crane to lift gas meters/regulators from pallet to submerger to perform leak test and repair; manually adjusts forks on walk-along forklift.

Uses handwriting or computer to record completed work (entry of meter) and timecards; accesses parts manuals and catalogs; writes down part names and serial numbers for ordering.

Maintains job area in a clean and safe order; replaces tools; sweeps floor; picks up trash and debris; cleans up spills; disposes of rotary oil and asbestos gaskets in collection container.

Cleans and stores work-related tools and equipment.

This position reports directly to the Fremont Gas & Electric Metering Services Plant Manager.

This position is Monday through Thursday from 5:30am to 4:00pm.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $53.36 per hour. This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must pass Index reading test
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds a minimum of one time a day
  • Ability and willingness to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
