Responsibilities:
Peraton is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support the Mechanical Integration group at NASA\xe2\x80\x99s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.


The position falls under the Environmental Testing Integration Services program. The candidate will perform moderate to complex tasks, demonstrating an ability to achieve full competency. Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity using operational precedents, which are not fully applicable. Such assignments, which are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems. Performs complex tasks, demonstrating full competency. Will work independently or direct a small group. Performs duties in areas such as mechanical maintenance, cleanroom operations, mechanical integration, plating and machining operations, metal cutting and recertification of lifting and handling devices and pressure vessel systems. Works with or leads other technicians in performing spacecraft environmental tests; repairing and maintaining equipment, facilities and systems; assembly, integration and handling of ground support equipment; testing and inspection of lifting device equipment and pressure vessels; operating conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools to fabricate flight and non-flight H/W components; fabrication of flight and test thermal blankets and test cables/harnesses.

  • Extensive experience, proficiency and knowledge of machine shop tools such as band saws, grinders and drill presses along with more complicated machine shop tools such as a lathes or mills are required
  • Experience providing fabrication support is required as is working with other disciplines or systems such as cryogenics, optics, etc.
  • Experience working with assembly and detailed drawings is essential
  • Experience with assembling, operating and/or certifying fluid transfer systems
  • Experience with training program administration, developing training database requirements and database oversight and management.
  • Electrical integration experience and possess multiple J-STD certifications, i.e. \xe2\x80\x93 mate/demate, crimp and cable harness, electrical safety, solder, ESD certification, etc.
  • Experience working with sheet metal, structural bonding, the creation of composite laminates, structures and assembly of composite panels is required.
  • Associate of applied sciences or engineering technology degree or journey person status in related field of technical expertise. Specialized training and operator certification pertaining to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of engineering terms and ability to operate computers is required. Ability to perform with minimal supervision and to read and interpret schematics, and work from sketches and drawings is required.
  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of large hazardous research aerospace test facilities.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma and minimum of 15 years of direct experience working with flight hardware (direct NASA project experience) and mechanical systems OR has demonstrated working knowledge with precision hardware and components
  • Military or technical school training is a plus
  • Experience providing fabrication support as well as working across other disciplines or systems such as electrical, optical, cryogenics, environmental test
  • Knowledge of engineering terms and ability to operate computers
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision, lead other technicians, read and interpret schematics, and work from sketches and drawings

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in confined spaces and clean-rooms for an extended period of time.
