Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

USA, United States

Job Description

Our client is a high-growth robotics company developing the next generation of warehouse automation systems powered by intelligent hardware and advanced autonomy. Their technology brings together mechanical innovation, perception, and software intelligence to create flexible, adaptive robots that transform warehouse operations.
They're a tight-knit, multi-disciplinary engineering team where creativity, experimentation, and precision engineering come together to push boundaries in real-world robotics.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the design, prototyping, and validation of the company's robotic systems. The role is well-suited for a hands-on, fast-moving engineer who enjoys building, testing, and iterating on cutting-edge mechanical designs that directly impact product performance and reliability.
This position sits within the Hardware Engineering team and reports to the Lead Mechanical Engineer. You'll work closely with electrical, software, and industrial design engineers to design, prototype, and refine core robotic components and subsystems.
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prototype new robotic concepts and hardware systems.
  • Support the assembly, testing, and validation of robotic prototypes and production systems.
  • Analyse and optimise mechanical designs for performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous design improvement.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and integration issues, implementing corrective actions and documenting solutions.
  • Instruct and support technicians to streamline assembly and testing workflows.
  • Maintain high standards of craftsmanship across all engineering work.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
  • 1+ year of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, ideally in robotics or automation.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools and familiar with GD&T standards.
  • Comfortable with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and use of machine shop tools.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, weldments, and sheet metal design.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing creativity with technical precision.
  • Willing to work primarily on-site in Fremont, CA, with flexibility for short or extended project-based travel.
Reasons to Apply:
  • Work on innovative robotic systems shaping the future of warehouse automation.
  • Gain hands-on experience across design, prototyping, and product integration.
  • Join a collaborative, passionate team that values learning, craftsmanship, and curiosity.
