Overview:
The Senior Manager of Software Engineering will play a pivotal role in software development activities and long-term initiative planning and collaboration across the Strategy & Transformation (S&T) organization. Software Engineering is the cornerstone of scalable digital transformation across PepsiCo's value chain. This leader will deliver the end-to-end software development experience, deliver high quality software as part of the DevOps process, and have accountability for our business operations.
The leader in this role will provide technical oversight and direction to our software development team to ensure we deliver the best possible software solutions and ensure they are generating value through cost savings or incremental value. This leader will work closely with the user experience, product, IT, and process engineering teams to develop new products and prioritize deliver solutions across S&T core priorities. Responsibilities:

  • Support the vision and guide a team of engineers in developing and maintaining Digital Products and Applications (DPA) aligned with core priorities in Strategy & Transformation.
  • Oversee the design and development of integration services for the Integration Platform using Java, Python, and Azure technologies.
  • Design scalable, performant, and secure systems ensuring maintainability, quality, and reliability.
Establish coding standards, enforce best practices, and conduct code reviews and technical audits. * Advise on the selection of tools, libraries, frameworks, and emerging technologies to enhance productivity and performance.
  • Research and recommend adoption of new and emerging technologies that align with business objectives.
  • Foster strong partnerships with User Experience, Product Management, IT, Data & Analytics, Emerging Tech, Innovation, and Process Engineering teams to deliver the Digital Products portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive software development strategy and roadmap aligned with business needs and transformation goals.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with AI tools and platforms such as OpenAI (GPT-3/4, Assistants API), Anthropic, or similar LLM providers.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into applications--including copilots, chatbots, data automation, and content generation--to enhance digital experiences.
  • Apply prompt engineering, context handling, and AI output refinement techniques to improve AI solution quality.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary, distributed, high-performance teams; build, mentor, and develop engineering talent.
  • Engage with executives to lead and advocate the narrative around software engineering and digital transformation.
  • Expand DPA capabilities through a customer-focused, data- and AI-driven digital solutions platform delivering automated and personalized experiences.
  • Manage and escalate delivery risks, impediments, and changes to stakeholders, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with key business partners to identify, recommend, and deliver solutions that meet strategic and operational objectives.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $118,700 - $198,800.

  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 15% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 12+ years of software design and development experience with Java (Spring Boot) and Python
  • 5+ years in technical leadership or management roles guiding engineering teams
  • Extensive experience building, deploying, and scaling microservices-based architectures for enterprise-grade applications
  • Proven ability to design and implement RESTful APIs and cloud-native integration services on multi-cloud environments
  • 5+ years with cloud-native solutions (Azure preferred, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Proficient in relational databases (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (Couchbase, MongoDB)
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message brokers such as Kafka or ActiveMQ
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps automation, and observability practices (logging, monitoring, alerting) to support distributed microservices
  • Expertise in designing secure, resilient, and performant backend systems that meet high availability and scalability requirements
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design principles
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional, Agile/SAFe teams
  • Familiarity with the Salesforce ecosystem (Sales Cloud/CRM, CG Cloud) is a plus
  • Exposure to AI/ML integration, cloud-native PaaS/SaaS services, and mobile backend enablement preferred
  • Hands-on familiarity with Generative AI tools and coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Windsurf to enhance developer productivity and accelerate code delivery
