Currently, we are seeking a Senior Manager Communication to join our growing global Communications team. The new Senior Manager will work closely with our editorial staff to help grow awareness for The Economist\xe2\x80\x99s highly regarded content and brand through earned media opportunities and public relations programs.

In this role you will be expected to be an ambassador for Communications team working closely with the rest of the team to build collaborative working relationships with The Economist Editorial team by showcasing the highest level of quality and professionalism.

The successful candidate will have a strong news judgment and a deep understanding of the news creation process, and will possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills. To be successful in this role you must have the ability think like a journalist and understands the impact of timing on news cycles.

Accountabilities

In this role you would be expected to:

  • Provide proactive support for The Economist editorial content including digital, films, special publications, apps and related programs run out of the editorial unit
  • Develop strong working relationships with The Economist editorial team; work to be seen by Editorial as PR counselor
  • Build relationships with external media including print journalists, TV bookers, broadcast producers, radio producers, radio bookers, long-lead programs and key news programs
  • Be reactive to external news events and pitch Economist content and editors to provide comment and perspective
  • Create bespoke public relations plans for marquee reports and special projects
  • Develop pitch lists, create press releases and background materials, and manage internal review and external distribution of materials
  • Prioritize incoming media requests and work with global team on inbound media opportunities
  • Stay abreast of editorial plans and programs and communicate back to VP and the rest of the Communications team

To succeed in this role you must:
  • Be a super publicist with a love of media relations
  • Have strong news judgment and a deep understanding of news creation process and news cycles
  • Must be a confident communicator and presenter
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail
  • Possess the ability to keep information confidential
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Be a self starter with a positive and professional demeanor

  • An ability to demonstrate and communicate value of working with Communications team
  • A proven track record of media relations success
  • A clear understanding of the media landscape
  • The ability to create compelling pitches and an understanding of the news
  • A Confident and professional manner when dealing with internal clients and stakeholders
