Senior Gamification Specialist -- Education & Training
Position summary
We're seeking a senior gamification specialist to design, build, and evaluate gamified learning experiences for a public sector Transportation training program. The role blends instructional design, learning science, UX/game design, and LMS/technical integration to increase learner engagement, knowledge retention, and on-the-job transfer for transportation professionals.
Preferred qualifications:
Master's/Bachelor's degree in Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, HCI, Game Design or related field.
Prior experience working with FHWA, DOT, or other federal training programs (NHI familiarity a plus).
Experience creating xAPI statement design and implementing LRS (Learning Record Store) integrations.
Background in behavioral design (nudge theory, habit formation) and experience measuring behavior change post-training.
Experience with rapid user research (usability testing, cognitive walkthroughs) and running pilot A/B tests.
Portfolio items including serious games, scenario-based training, and simulation authoring.
Experience managing small development teams and coordinating contractors/subcontractors.
Development experience (nice to have) hands-on coding or technical development experience to support prototyping and integration, for example:
Frontend: HTML5, JavaScript (vanilla/ES6+), TypeScript, responsive web UI development, and frameworks (React, Vue, or similar).
Game/interactive engines: Unity (C#) or basic familiarity with Unreal/HTML5 game frameworks.
Backend/API: Node.js, Python (Flask/Django), REST APIs, working knowledge of authentication and data flow.
xAPI/LRS integration and experience with JSON, HTTP, and basic SQL for analytics queries.
Version control (Git), basic DevOps familiarity (CI/CD), and cloud familiarity (AWS/Azure) for deploying prototypes or LRS instances.
Ability to produce quick working prototypes (HTML5/JS, Storyline with JS hooks, or Unity prototypes) to accelerate UAT and stakeholder demos.
