Overview

Extex in Gilbert Arizona, a division of Kaman is looking for an experienced and dynamic Sr. Design Engineer. The individual will play a key role in a variety of projects through the engineering of components/systems for aircraft gas turbine engines (including turbines, blades, nozzles, vanes, combustors, transmission gears and gear assemblies) also helicopter components (including rotor systems, transmission gears, bearings and structural components and assemblies). Responsibilities will include the preparation of component packages for new product and the development and improvement for submission to the FAA. Create plans/drawings in SolidWorks based on findings from reverse engineering of components. Interface with engineering, manufacturing & quality team members as well as outside vendors in order to complete project deliverables. Participate in design review sessions and assists with validation/verification of work. Serve as a senior resource for the Engineering team and domain expert, provide training and technical expertise to less experienced team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate and provide technical expertise in specialty areas on projects to create intellectual property (PMA\'s).
• Independently applies current engineering practices and follows operations through a systematic approach.
• Effectively manage multiple PMA projects to meet or exceed project goals and timelines.
• Develop and document product and process specifications and new design practices, and determine product performance and integrity using innovative design methods and analyses that result in efficient manufacturability of products.
• Create drawings/models of components utilizing SolidWorks for new product development, existing product upgrades, and for the reverse engineering of products.
• Maintain records required by regulatory agencies for the development of new product.
• Verify the work of, assist, and train new/lesser skilled employees and/or vendor representatives.
• Maintain clean and safe work environment. Follow safety and environmental procedures and regulations. Report safety incidents to supervisor.
• Make recommendations for improvements to work processes. Contribute to 5S program in work area.
• Provide a high level of service to all internal and external customers. Contribute to positive teamwork environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in training/learning other positions. Accomplish related results as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor\'s degree required in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent technical experience.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years related experience in Aerospace/Aviation required.

Proven ability to design and engineer aircraft components/systems.

Experience working with outside vendors to achieve project goals.

Familiarity with FAA regulations for obtaining intellectual property preferred.

Knowledge of 3D modeling packages such as Solidworks preferred.
