Job Description

The Senior Accountant completes the revenue accounting activities and tasks required to process test taker registrations and revenue recognition using established practices and methods. The Senior Accountant reviews sales revenue information for accuracy and completeness and performs correct revenue recognition procedures. The Senior Accountant completes month end closings and reconciliations and is familiar with Sage ERP and SEI as well as advanced level Excel skills. The Senior Accountant is independent and collaborative in nature and often plays a key role in process improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

Lead revenue accounting close procedures: establish and follow controls, prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, conduct analysis and ensure accuracy and compliance

Prepare and review balance sheet account reconciliations; includes providing feedback and support to resolve reconciling items timely and lead effort to standardize all balance sheet reconciliations

Responsible for various month end journal entries; Revenue, Deferred Revenue

Perform monthly revenue analyses to include revenue trending, customer analysis, documentation of variances

Partner closely with customer success team to provide revenue guidance for contract structuring, ensure application of ASC 606 and financial objectives are met

Responsible for managing customer questions and requests via email inbox

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to build accounting processes that support business initiatives

Execute day-to-day revenue accounting operation to ensure smooth functioning; Review customer contracts to ensure contracts are recorded and accounted for accurately

Continually assess accounting processes and systems for improvement opportunities, offering recommendations for improvements and implementing new processes or changes to systems in support of accounting and finance objectives

Play a key role in the Team's internal, continuous improvement initiatives

Involvement in projects (i.e. automation of customer pricing, conversion to Sage SEI for financial reporting)

Support Assistant Controller and Controller in their duties as needed

Education

Bachelor's degree in accounting

CPA certification is a plus

Qualifications

5+ years in finance and accounting experience, with a strong background in revenue accounting

Experience managing revenue recognition for a medium sized company with multiple products and complex contracts

Strong working knowledge of US GAAP

Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft tools

Experience with Sage 300 or other similar multi-entity integrated accounting software

Experience with report writing within SEI (Sage Enterprise Intelligence) or similar software

Well organized, proactive, must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced quickly changing environment

Ability to adhere to highest standards of confidentiality and discretion in all proprietary business, financial, and employee matters

Excellent understanding of English, both written and verbal required; ability to communicate in a professional, knowledgeable, and courteous manner with employees, clients, vendors, business contacts

Ability to maintain open, direct, positive, and objective lines of communication with management
