Job Description

The Utah Senate Communications office is seeking a creative digital media intern with a passion for digital storytelling during the 2026 General Session. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in political communications by producing compelling video content that will engage and inform Utahns about the legislative process and policy.

The digital media intern will work closely with the communications team to develop and execute creative social media strategies and provide real-time coverage of the legislative process. This position is ideal for individuals eager to apply their skills in content creation, digital storytelling and multimedia production while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

Interns are nonpartisan session staff and do not perform any campaign work. The Utah Senate Communications Office serves all senators and is dedicated to maintaining a neutral stance in all aspects of its work.

Responsibilities

Work full-time during the 2026 General Legislative Session, under the direction of the deputy chief of staff, to create, film, edit and produce high-quality video content that aligns with the tone, pace and professionalism of the Utah Senate. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a quick turnaround time to produce compelling video content for use on social media, websites and internal communications. Assist in real-time coverage of legislative activities, events and key moments during the session.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Strong interest in social media, content creation and digital storytelling. Strong sense of narrative flow, an eye for compelling visuals and the ability to deliver quick-turnaround videos that drive engagement and bring legislative stories to life. Experience creating video content. Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.). Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Solid understanding of the different social media platforms, social media trends and how to utilize them. Consistent demonstration of responsibility and initiative. Ability to complete tasks under deadlines while managing multiple projects. Motivated, creative, detail-oriented, adaptable and highly dependable. Team player who excels as an individual contributor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience filming political, governmental or live events. Ability to shoot high-quality video with proper framing, lighting and audio. Familiarity with video organization and publishing platforms (e.g., YouTube, Instagram). Familiarity with graphics design tools is a plus.

PAY

: $4,100 stipend

START DATE

: January 6, 2026, and ends March 13, 2026 (the start and end dates are flexible). Hours for this position will typically be about 40 hours per week during the general session. Extended work hours may occasionally be required.
