Job Description

Under the general direction of a Security Officer II, DOJ, this position is assigned to one of three shifts in a 24-hour operation to provide security at a Department of Justice facility. This position has limited peace officer powers as defined in the California Penal Code, section 830.4, which includes the powers of arrest. The incumbent will carry a firearm, baton, pepper spray, and any other safety equipment as required by the Department, and only while on duty.



Please note, all new to state employees will be given the minimum salary of the classification $4,969. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with the applicable laws, rules, and regulations.



This position may be entitled to the Hiring Above Minimum Authorization (HAM), Section 5.

EDUCATION INCENTIVE


Employees in the Bargaining Unit 7 may be eligible for the following:
2.5% of the employee's base pay for an Associates of Science/Arts or an Intermediate POST certificate. 5% of the employee's base pay for an Bachelor of Arts or Science or an Advanced POST Certificate (or equivalent).

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Temporary Appointments may be considered if conditions warrant. Temporary Appointments may be made to anyone regardless of eligibility. Temporary Appointments may not exceed 9 months and will require eligibility to be obtained through an examination process in order to transition to a permanent appointment.
