Happy Start Learning Center #2 is a small business in Starkville, MS. We are professional, fast-paced and engaging.

We are looking for a Secretary to join our administrative team. This position is responsible for handling a variety of clerical duties, including answering phones, organizing documents and scheduling meetings. The Secretary is also responsible for preparing special presentations and reports for executive staff as needed.

Key Responsibilities



Greet and assist parents, visitors, and staff in a professional and friendly manner. Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and route messages appropriately. Maintain accurate child enrollment files, attendance records, and emergency contact information. Assist with enrollment and registration processes, including collecting required documentation. Prepare and distribute parent communications, newsletters, notices, and forms. Support the Director with scheduling, data entry, and report preparation (e.g., attendance, meal counts, staff rosters). Maintain compliance documentation for licensing, USDA/CACFP food program, and staff training records. Handle incoming and outgoing mail, invoices, and receipts; assist with basic bookkeeping or billing tasks as assigned. Maintain confidentiality of child, parent, and staff information at all times. Order and organize office and classroom supplies as needed. Assist with special events, staff meetings, and training sessions. Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Director or management team.

Qualifications



High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in business, early childhood education, or related field preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of office or administrative experience, preferably in a childcare or educational setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and childcare management software (e.g., Procare, Brightwheel) preferred. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail. Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a welcoming demeanor in a busy environment. Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements and CACFP procedures is a plus.

Working Conditions



Standard office environment within a childcare facility. Frequent interaction with children, parents, and staff. Must pass background check and meet all state childcare health and safety requirements.

Physical Requirements



Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., files, supplies, or small packages).

Pay: $10.00 - $14.00 per hour
