The Secretary of Nursing Services is responsible for the initial contact with caregivers, customers, patients, and visitors. The Secretary performs caregiver, education, and patient scheduling tasks as well as insurance & licensure verification and assuring the information obtained is accurate and entered correctly. May be responsible for the collection of payments. The Secretary answers incoming phone calls, maintains files, copies staff materials, and schedules/coordinates appointments or meetings as directed. Additional duties include: Ordering/maintaining office supplies
Mail coordination
Complete charts or graphs as well as audits and division tracking
Clerical functions such as taking and processing meeting minutes
Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Medical Terminology required
Intermediate computer experience required. Knowledge of Windows-based software packages required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Organized, accurate, detail oriented, ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet demands
Ability to problem-solve and work independently
Excellent telephone etiquette skills
Required Length and Type of Experience
Office or Medical Assistant training, preferred
Required Licensure or Certification
BLS recommended
Completion of office or medical assistant training, preferred
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity and repetitive hand/wrist motions to produce materials on the computer. Normal or corrected vision, normal or corrected hearing. Extensive sitting and frequent walking. Occasional lifting and carrying items from 5 to 20 pounds. Ability to work in a high-stress environment.
