Position Title: Farm Cart Lead (Manager on Duty) Supervisor: Executive Chef Employee Status: Seasonal, Full Time & Part Time hours Location: On-site (Farm Barn at Shelburne Farms: 1611 Harbor Rd, Shelburne, VT 05482) Start & End Date: May 10 - October 31, 2023 Salary Range: $20/hour Schedule: Mon-Thurs, 8am - 4pm OR Fri - Sun, 8am - 4pm Farm Cart operates from 11am - 3pm, however the schedule reflects food packaging, set-up and break-down times. We\xe2\x80\x99re open to candidates who would like to work a 40+ hour schedule however some weekend shifts will be required. Who We\xe2\x80\x99re Looking for Shelburne Farms is a nonprofit organization and a 1,400-acre working farm, forest, and National Historic Landmark in Shelburne, VT. To better connect the food from our land with the visitors at Shelburne Farms, our Farm Cart is an accessible way to enjoy a quick, farm-grown lunch. We offer simple, prepared meals that are sourced from our farm and local community, then thoughtfully crafted by our culinary team at the Shelburne Farms Inn. Our Farm Cart is centrally located at the Children\xe2\x80\x99s Farm Yard, where visitors can meet with our goats, a dairy cow, rabbits, sheep, and chickens or enjoy some cheddar cheese while watching our Cheesemakers hard at work. What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Do
  • Set-up and break-down the Farm Cart before and after opening to the public.
  • Interact with customers, take orders through a digital system (cards or digital payment only), collect and package each prepared food & beverage order.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy space both inside the food cart and in the public eating area.
  • Help the kitchen team package food for the day.
  • Transport food from the kitchen to the Farm Cart.
  • Take inventory of supplies and restock each day.
  • Remove rubbish from the cart and public eating area at the end of each day.
  • Support a continuous effort to build and sustain a diverse and welcoming working and learning environment for all visitors, guests, and staff.
Core Qualifications
  • Curiously Communicate: Engage with each visitor at the Farm Cart to share the story of where their food came from on the farm and local community. Learn about their story and help us relate our farm\xe2\x80\x99s mission with each visitor.
  • Process-driven: Much like a food truck at a busy event, our Farm Cart is a high-volume, quality food service operation and requires you to be accountable for operating much as if it were your own food truck. You and your colleagues are solely responsible for ensuring the success of this farm-to-table operation.
  • Food-passionate: While you don\xe2\x80\x99t need to be an aspiring chef to operate our Farm Cart as all food is prepared by the restaurant staff, however having a passion for sharing our food with the community is important. We\xe2\x80\x99ll teach you basic culinary skills and you may help package the food each morning, however no formal training is required.
  • Positive-minded: Awareness of how your role contributes to our farm\xe2\x80\x99s mission and farm-to-plate experience, while remaining flexible to changing schedules or the team\xe2\x80\x99s needs.
  • Receptive: Willingness to receive feedback, grow personally and professionally, and develop new skills.
  • Ability to pass a 7-year national criminal background check.
Additional Valued Qualifications
  • Maintain a positive attitude under pressure.
  • Open to learning.
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License is ideal.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Primarily an indoor work environment however you will transport food to and from the restaurant in a work vehicle, and set-up/clean-up the outdoor guest dining area at the Farm Barn.
  • Ability to stand for the entire shift.
  • Ability to lift, squat, twist, bend, move up and down stairs with 50 lbs.
  • Indoor spaces lack conventional heating and cooling.
