About Us:

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center (COC) is a community-focused athletic training facility and outdoor destination located on a lakeside campus in Craftsbury, Vermont. Your familiarity with and enthusiasm for working and playing in a small and rural community will help the COC achieve our Mission:To support and promote participation and excellence in lifelong sports with a special focus on Rowing, Cross Country Skiing, Biathlon and Running. To use and teach sustainable practices. To protect and manage the surrounding land, lake and trails.

Position Summary:

This individual will also help to manage the community rowing program. As part of the full-time sculling staff, this individual must be able to help maintain and assign a fleet of 60 boats, assist in the coaching of camps, organize and run the Community Sculling Program and provide administrative support to the Director of Sculling. In the off-season, this individual will assist with the administrative demands of the sculling program, manage regular communication with the COC sculling community and assist in the cultivation of a strong presence in the local community; teaching rowing on ergometers both at the center and in the surrounding area.

How to Succeed in this role:

The summer camp season runs continuously from early May through the end of September. The off-season is significantly less structured, and the ability to work independently is a must.
Working with the sculling program at Craftsbury requires a broad range of hard and soft skills.
Applicants for this role must have:Excellent communication skills. Comfort with public speaking, ability to explain complex ideas to an audience with diverse skill levels, comfort with email, Microsoft Office software, and audio-visual technology. Interest in socializing and interacting with people of all ages and sculling abilities. Part of what makes Craftsbury special is the social engagement between coaches, campers, community members and staff. Curiosity about principles of excellent coaching and a desire to learn. Ability to work with a team of coaches, receive constructive feedback, show an interest in learning new techniques, and enhance your professional skill set. A personal drive to advance your career and transform newly learned skills and knowledge into practical experience. Possess a healthy blend of confidence in your abilities with a respectful humility to ask questions and seek guidance when needed. Strong Organizational Skills. Possess the ability to juggle multiple tasks at the same time with a solid understanding of prioritizing responsibilities. Understand the importance of providing a service and experience to our guests will inspire them to return year after year. Two years of coaching with an emphasis on sculling is preferred. Undergraduate College Degree is preferred.
