Position Overview




Scout Executive/CEO - (Council Classification) 400





Serves as chief executive officer of the council and gives direction to the operations and administration of the council, subject to the authority and direction of the executive board. Serves as the Secretary of the corporation, the executive board, and the executive committee. Serves as an ex officio member of all committees of the executive board. Is responsible for strategic planning, attaining council and Scouting America's objectives, fiscal stability, membership and growth management, volunteer and community relationships, and unit service within the council territory. Carries out other duties of the office as set forth in the council bylaws.


Resumes and a one-page cover letter are

due by November 14, 2025. Resumes should not exceed two pages. These documents will be shared with the Scout Executive selection committee. Cover letters should provide information supporting local council competencies/profile.

Responsibilities




Is responsible for effectively managing a council with revenue of

$1,895,000.




Membership:

Establishes an action plan that results in balanced growth so all qualified youth may participate.

Personnel:

Recruits and trains a full complement of volunteers and staff to fulfill the council's objectives.

Finance:

Develops, in cooperation with the finance committee, a budget based on the council's resources. Responsible for the council's fundraising program.

Program:

Directs Scouting programs in the council, including public relations, training, activities, camping, etc.

Administration:

Provides general direction to the work of the council to ensure an efficient council operation. ######

Competencies




Demonstrated experience in growing membership and units. History of successful and innovative fundraising. Assigns and holds people accountable to their goals and service objectives. Cultivate, recruit, lead, and inspire volunteers. Skilled in non-profit financial management. Passionate advocate for Scouting. ######

Education




Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university ######

Qualifications




Must have a history of successful fundraising. Newer revenue sources are needed, including special events and major gift solicitation. History of consistent membership growth and membership management. Knowledge and ability to engage staff, volunteers, and units in developing and executing strategies and engaging emerging youth markets. Opportunities exist in rural areas. Must have knowledge and experience in all Scouting America programs. Must have experience and knowledge in team building. Need to grow the staff. Successfully coaching, developing, and managing all staff is critical to the success of the council. Currently rate is 70 cents per business mile. Interim Housing: The President is to negotiate with the selected candidate. Relocate the family within 180 days. Scouting America Match Savings Plan, a 403(b) plan offered through Fidelity Investments. Effective January 1, 2025, the employer match is 50% of each pre-tax or Roth dollar you contribute on the first 9% of pay that you defer into the plan.

Hiring Range: $120,000/yr - $150,000/yr plus incentives
