Position Overview
The Large Molecule Research (LMR) department is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join the Biologics Characterization, Expression, and Purification (BiCEP) team. The scientist will work closely with other LMR functional groups (Protein Engineering, Antibody Discovery, Molecular Biology and Screening) as well as the therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will play a key role in the discovery of new therapeutic antibodies. The position is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Key Responsibilities
Express and purify recombinant antibodies, antigens, and fusion proteins to support early-stage antibody discovery research
Perform analytics to ensure the purity, quality, and function of recombinant proteins
Initiate, design, and perform platform improvement experiments
Work with scientists of therapeutic teams and other departments, and maintain a culture of teamwork and collaboration in cross-functional project teams
Present data to department and project teams
Provide mentoring and training to new and junior colleagues
Qualifications
PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering or a related field. Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 relevant experience will also be considered
Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, and present experimental results
Experience with transient and stable mammalian protein expression
Experience in protein purification using automated (AKTA) systems
Experience with protein analytical techniques, such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, SPR (Biacore/Carterra), BLI (Octet), SDS-PAGE, ELISA, Western blotting
Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to present findings to diverse scientific groups in clear and concise manner
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with multiple protein expression systems (i.e. yeast, bacteria, engineered cell lines), including troubleshooting difficult-to-express proteins
A background in biochemistry or biophysics for the generation and purification of complex antibodies and/or antigens or non-antibody formats
Experience with protein and antigen design using sequence and structure analysis as well as purification of constructs with appropriate tags
Expression and purification of non-standard antibodies such as bi- and tri-specific antibodies and higher valency formats
Track record of scientific accomplishments as evidenced by publications/patents, including expertise in biochemistry or biophysics
