Job Description



The Scientific Research Analyst II develops and maintains large databases for the purposes of research, conducts data research and analyses. The position will focus on nonhuman primate behavior data collection, animal training, and neurobiological testing. The Scientific Analyst will contribute to all aspects of multiple research projects and be responsible for the day to day research operations under the supervision of the Behavioral Biologist.
May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster. If required to work during a closure, employee must provide accurate and current contact information and is responsible for maintaining communication with TNPRC. Failure to report to work when requested by supervisor or manager will result in disciplinary action as outlined by the Staff Handbook.

Employee attendance must meet established work schedules. Faithfulness in coming to work, being on time, planning absences in advance when possible, and calling in when unavoidably detained from reporting for work is an essential requirement of the job. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Highly proficient computer skills and an excellent working knowledge of statistical software applications

  • Ability to effectively manage large and/or complex datasets

  • Highly proficient data research and analysis skills

  • Great attention to detail

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; good manuscript and grant writing skills; familiarity with manuscript publication and grants submission processes and procedures

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments

  • Ability to work well independently and demonstrate proficient problem-solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed

  • Must have the ability to work with nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species without jeopardizing the health of said nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species

  • The TNPRC maintains biosafety level 3 facilities and performs work on diverse infectious agents many of which can cause serious disease in humans if standard operating procedures, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment, are not followed. Depending on agent specific risk assessments individuals may be offered, or in some cases required to have vaccinations against the relevant agents

  • If this position is assigned to work in ABSL3 containment areas, there will be additional minimum requirements including some or all of the following:
    • Must pass a US Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for access to select biological agents and toxins.
    • Ability to perform job duties while wearing respiratory protection.
    • Must participate in drug and alcohol program and be in compliance with TNPRC drug and alcohol policy
Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor\'s Degree in scientific field and two years\'\xc3\x82\xe2\x84\xa2 of directly related research experience

  • Specific precautions against and/or immunization against potentially hazardous agents are required
Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in behavioral, developmental, or cognitive neuroscience research laboratory

  • Knowledge of nonhuman primate behavior

  • Experience in working with nonhuman primates

  • Background in behavioral sciences or neurobehavioral research

  • Experience collecting behavioral data

  • Technical expertise in implementing neurobehavioral research

  • Experience with positive reinforcement training

  • Experience in manuscript and grant writing
