Scientific Leader, In Vivo Vaccines and Therapeutics Models

In the plan to create a new hub for mRNA-based vaccine discovery in Cambridge, we are building new laboratories that will be focused on the development of state-of-the-art methods that will be supporting deep product understanding, process and product development, as well as testing of pre-clinical and clinical samples for new vaccines.
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Scientific Leader to advance our research in viral vaccines and therapeutics. In this role, you will spearhead the identification, evaluation, and implementation of cutting-edge in vivo models for viral diseases. Collaborating closely with lab heads, project leaders, senior management, and external partners, you will ensure our models remain at the forefront of scientific excellence and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Model Development & Evaluation

• Identify, assess, and implement in vivo models for evaluating viral vaccines and therapeutics.
• Collaborate with the in vivo team to integrate advanced model systems into research projects.

Scientific Communication & Leadership

• Lead discussions in project meetings and presentations, articulating complex model merits and limitations to diverse audiences.
• Serve as a scientific advisor to internal stakeholders by proposing innovative model approaches based on the latest field developments.

Study Design & Protocol Review

• Chair the Scientific review of animal study protocols, ensuring adherence to Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies and guidelines. This responsibility includes the collecting of reviewers' assessment, providing actionable scientific feedback, assess the completeness of replies and the approval of protocols
• Apply robust study design principles and statistical knowledge to optimize animal research protocols.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Maintain effective communication with both internal teams and external collaborators.

Basic Qualifications:

• PhD in Immunology/Life Sciences/Virology or a Veterinary degree with proven research activity plus at least 5 years of experience with in vivo immunology and/or viral infection animal models OR a Masters degree with at least 8 years of experience with in vivo immunology, viral infection animal models
• At least two years of experience with in vivo models to assess immunogenicity of viral vaccines and therapeutics, ideally expertise in viral infection models.
• At least two years of experience working on an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee or Independent Scientific Review committee

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in working in a GLP/GCLP environment
• Excellent track record in immunology and the application of animal models, viral infections, evidenced by scientific publications.
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Prior experience in preclinical vaccine research and development

#Vx-Cam The US annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $136,125 to $226,875 The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate's skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
