Overview

Rogers Water Utilities is seeking a candidate for SCADA & Instrumentation Technician 1. The successful candidate will be working with our team in providing the best service to our customers. The position will focus on installation, programming, testing, maintenance, repair and calibration of the combined water and wastewater SCADA, electrical systems and all lift stations. Will also perform various electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks to ensure the successful operation of the water distribution and sewer collection systems.

Responsibilities

Work independently or with others to inspect, replace, test, service, troubleshoot, and complete preventive maintenance tasks on SCADA systems, lift stations, and water distribution pumps and related equipment. Use test equipment and meters to check, test, troubleshoot and calibrate electrical controls, instrumentation, motor starts, switchgear, alarm systems, supervisory equipment operation. Exercise sound judgment to repair and/or maintain various electrical controls, switchgear, alarm systems and related electrical and generation equipment. Maintain electrical parts and equipment inventory. Writes purchase requests, compare pricing, order and expedite needed parts. Work from blueprints, sketches, manufacturer's instructions, and written or verbal instructions. Maintain accurate records of station maintenance, time and materials, test descriptions and written reports. Assist in budget preparation with recommendations, tools, equipment, contract services, and required repairs. Work efficiently and effectively with all other departments to achieve the most economical and satisfactory resolution to operational concerns. Comply with safety rules and regulations. Disassemble, inspect, determine damage, cause of damage and required parts and recommend methods of repair of electrical/instrumentation and pumping/mechanical equipment. Store and properly care for all tools and test equipment. Read and interpret plant instrumentation and electrical drawings, ladder diagrams, equipment troubleshooting guides and parts lists; instruct and direct assigned personnel in the safe and proper methods of equipment troubleshooting. Will be required to participate in the after-hours, emergency on-call schedule. Must be able to respond to site of emergencies within 30 minutes of notification. Configures and updates the SCADA Alarm system; maintains capability for automatic notification of SCADA Alarms. Maintains security parameters, user profiles and passwords, to allow the use of SCADA applications. Develops, maintains, and coordinates SCADA backup and recovery plans. Performs records maintenance duties, to include work orders, materials and supplies utilized, cost estimates, labor required, and maintenance logs. Perform any other related duties as require or assigned.

Qualifications:

Equivalent to four years high school or GED. 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, public and other employees of the organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats. Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement. Must be able to work in outdoor environment. Must be available to work regular schedule from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm - Monday thru Friday. (schedule may verify depending on operational needs) Must be available to work on-call (weeknights and weekends) as assigned. Must be able to represent RWU in a professional manner. Steady and Consistent Work History Must have general electrical knowledge. Must have general pump knowledge.

SECURITY / SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

Based on definitions in the RWU Employee Policy Manual this position meets the criteria to be defined as a Security or Safety Sensitive position. As a result of this determination any employee working in this position is required to disclose to their Department Manager or Superintendent the use of any prescribed medication, including marijuana, which has the potential to impact the employee's ability to perform the duties of their position.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

Additional skills and/or training in any of the following areas is considered a benefit for this position. Knowledge and understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), ability to troubleshoot integrated control systems, experience with Telepace studio and Control Microsystems Logic Controllers, current D4 Water License and/or Class 3 Collections Certification.
