The SANE program coordinator's primary responsibility is to implement and maintain a system of care for SANE patients and their families throughout the continuum of care. The coordinator works in collaboration with the ED nursing leader, ED medical director, and other members of the health care team and management staff. The SANE coordinator's secondary role is to assist in the emergency department when available.

SANE Specific Responsibilities
Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with local Rape Crisis personnel, law enforcement agencies, social work, and emergency department personnel.
Performs forensic examinations and collection of evidence in accordance with state and professional organization guidelines.
Demonstrates competence in the use of additional evidence collection tools such as colposcope, Bluemaxx light, toluidine blue, and photo documentation.
Completes SANE documentation to include consents, discharge instructions, assessment, and interventions.
Initiates appropriate referrals for follow up after care as needed.
Performs quality assurance functions and other duties as assigned by the program coordinator.
Patient & Family Centered Care

Nursing Practice
Assesses, formulates nursing diagnosis, plans, and implements and continually evaluates effectiveness of the individualized written nursing care plan and delivery of nursing care for each patient assigned.
Analyzes and prioritizes problems and makes sound judgments based on logic and/or critical thinking skills.
Safety and Quality Improvement
Improve the safety and quality of healthcare systems by minimizing the risk of harm to patients and the healthcare team.
Administers medications and executes regimens as authorized by the state licensure.
Incorporates quality measures and data to understand individual and system performance.
Applies use of technology and standardized practices that support safety and quality.
Identifies strategies to reduce risk of harm to self or others.
Participates in unit-based quality improvement, evidence-based practice projects or research.
Promotes and incorporates error prevention techniques.

Promote and incorporate use of technology to communicate, manage information, mitigate errors, and support decision-making.
Navigates, plans patient care, and documents ongoing status, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes in accurate, timely manner in the electronic health record.

Advocates protecting the integrity of the healthcare record and the privacy of each patient.
Communication, Teamwork & Collaboration
Interacts effectively with patient, families and with healthcare team to foster open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Education
: Associates degree from an accredited nursing program.
Skills
: Communicate effectively with a wide variety of intra-and inter-facility staff and administration using both oral and written communication. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Possession of critical thinking, teaching and clinical skills.
Years of Experience
: 3+ years of SANE RN adult & pediatric examiner experience
License
: Currently licensed as RN in the State of Michigan
Certification
: Must maintain current CPR training. Maintain department specific certifications (ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, etc.); new hires/transfers to this role must obtain within one year of hire (See Appendix A).

Frequent prolonged standing and walking. Frequent lifting, positioning, and transferring of patients. Possible exposure to infectious disease, chemicals, toxic substances, and blood borne pathogens from blood and/or bodily fluids. Occasional pressures due to multiple tasks.
