What you will do:



To serve as the staff specialist in safety by carrying out procedures with the line organization that effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize exposure to regulatory violations. Working closely with the safety team to provide guidance, awareness and solutions to ensure safe and reliable operations while acting as a strong safety proponent, educator, advocate, consultant and mentor for their location's safety culture. Strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to multitask are a must.

Supports and motivates internal customers by serving as the safety point person to provide information, assistance, and guidance on all safety matters. Ability to establish working relationships with plant management and the workforce. Administer, direct, and manage compliance with the company safety program and local incident prevention efforts to ensure company safety goals are met. Implement safety procedures and programs necessary to improve the safety program's effectiveness. Coordinate plant's periodic MSHA inspections, including accompanying inspectors to answer questions and take notes/photos as required. Delivers new hire employee safety orientations and safety training, monthly safety meetings, and annual safety updates to all plant personnel to support developed programs. Monitors adherence to safety program policies and procedures in the plant and reports discrepancies to plant management and safety team. Coordinate annual hearing tests and any other industrial hygiene monitoring as directed. Work with safety team to ensure goals, metrics, and priorities for safety are being met. Works with plant management to minimize lost time and reportable accidents. Conduct periodic plant inspections focused on ensuring regulatory compliance. Conduct Behavior-Based safety observations and submit results using SOTI phone app. Participates in and coordinates the plant's Safety Committee meetings and projects.

Experience & abilities you will need:



Associate degree plus two years' experience or an equivalent combination. Prior MSHA experience strongly desired. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and various training communications. Experience with Microsoft Office programs. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Under guidance of the safety team, ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to focus on details and understand the overall impact of events and decisions. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred and at least 2 years related experience coordinating the safety program in a heavy industrial setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Some travel may be assigned to visit/assist other GCC cement locations depending on business needs or development opportunities.
