Position Summary

We're seeking a knowledgeable and proactive

Safety Manager

to support County capital improvement projects. This role will oversee construction-site safety compliance, implement project-specific safety plans, and ensure contractors meet all regulatory, contractual, and County safety requirements. The Safety Manager will serve as the primary field presence for safety oversight--conducting inspections, identifying hazards, documenting conditions, and coordinating corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment for all project personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, review, and implement project-specific health and safety plans, ensuring full compliance with OSHA, County standards, and contract requirements. Conduct regular site safety inspections to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, or non-compliant work practices; issue corrective action notices as needed. Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions for field staff and contractors. Maintain detailed safety logs, incident reports, near-miss tracking, and daily field safety documentation. Review contractor safety submittals, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety documentation for alignment with project standards. Participate in progress meetings, providing updates on safety performance, trends, and outstanding issues. Coordinate with contractors, County representatives, and project managers to resolve safety concerns and mitigate risks. Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and development of corrective or preventive measures. Ensure proper use of PPE, implementation of traffic control plans, confined space procedures, lockout/tagout, and other required safety protocols. Support closeout activities by verifying completion of safety-related punch list items and documentation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in

Construction Management

, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum

5 years of experience

in construction safety management, preferably on public-sector or infrastructure projects. Strong working knowledge of

OSHA 29 CFR 1926

, hazard identification, and construction safety best practices. Experience conducting field safety inspections and writing detailed reports. Excellent communication and coordination skills with contractors, inspectors, and project managers. Ability to work in active construction environments and travel between project locations.

Certifications such as

CHST

CSP

CSHO

, OSHA Authorized Trainer, or equivalent. Experience with County, municipal, or DOT style safety programs. Familiarity with incident investigation methodologies and safety performance tracking systems.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
