Job Description

CyberStorm Defense(TM) is seeking an experienced Safety Management System (SMS) / Safety Risk Management (SRM) Specialist to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) in advancing the safety and performance of the National Airspace System (NAS).

This position plays a critical role within the FAA's Program Management Organization (PMO) and Air Traffic Organization (ATO) by implementing, monitoring, and refining safety management frameworks consistent with the FAA's SMS Order 8000.369, SRM processes, and AOV oversight requirements.

The specialist will provide expertise in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation--ensuring that modernization programs under NextGen and PTAC align with FAA's proactive safety culture and regulatory framework.

Key Responsibilities:



Lead and support Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM) activities across FAA modernization initiatives. Conduct hazard analyses, risk assessments, and mitigation tracking using FAA's Safety Risk Management guidance. Develop, review, and maintain Safety Risk Management Documents (SRMDs) and Safety Assurance (SA) Reports. Collaborate with FAA's Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV) and System Safety Management Group (SSMG) to ensure compliance with FAA Order 8040.4. Facilitate safety panels, workshops, and system-level safety assessments with FAA stakeholders and program teams. Apply system safety engineering techniques (FMEA, FTA, Bow-Tie Analysis) to complex aviation systems. Interface with engineering, human factors, and program management teams to integrate safety into the AMS lifecycle. Ensure safety traceability across system requirements, design, and operational deployment. Contribute to the development of FAA safety metrics and performance indicators supporting continuous improvement under the NextGen Safety Portfolio.

Mandatory Qualifications:



10+ years of experience supporting FAA or aviation safety programs within DOT, DoD, or aerospace domains. Strong knowledge of FAA SMS, SRM, and SA frameworks, including FAA Orders 8000.369, 8040.4, and 1100.161. Hands-on experience preparing SRMDs, Safety Cases, and Hazard Analyses for FAA systems or air traffic programs. Proven ability to facilitate Safety Panels, Risk Boards, and Peer Reviews. Bachelor's or Master's in Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline. Excellent analytical, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred Qualifications:



Prior support to FAA AOV, AJM, or NextGen programs. Familiarity with FAA Air Traffic Organization (ATO) Safety Management System. Knowledge of NAS system safety, human factors, and reliability analysis. Certifications: CSEP, PMP, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Active Public Trust, Secret, or higher clearance preferred.
