Safety and Security Specialist

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting, modeling, and continually improving the Safety Performance Culture at Muscatine Site. This role serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) maintaining management systems/programs for the site including Site Security. Working closely with Site Leadership, Area Safety Coordinators, and Safety Team, ensuring continuous development and achievement of site and AIM Safety goals. Overseeing site and plant performance issues related to Safety, leading to proposal and implementation of sound technical solutions. Additional functions include, leading the Site Central Safety Committee, and supporting Machine Safety program, Vehicle Safety, and Incident Investigation at the site.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Safety Specialist, are to:

  • Set strategic direction and priorities for Site Security;
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and improve comprehensive security vulnerability assessments and site security plans, processes, and infrastructure;
  • Ensure compliance and strive for industry best practice with respect to Department of Homeland Security and Department of Transportation requirements;
  • Partner with Security contractor and internal resources to continually evaluate and adjust to evolving needs;
  • Oversee, maintain, and improve appropriate physical security and access systems, fire protection systems, and emergency alarm and notification systems;
  • Act as the primary agency liaison for the site to federal, state, and local law enforcement) and emergency response organizations;
  • Owner of Vehicle Safety program;
  • Supports Machine Safety, Fork Truck Safety, and Incident Investigation at the Site;
  • SME for MOC\'s and project reviews across the site;
  • Interprets and advises on the impact of emerging challenges, regulations, and legislation to site operations, ensuring adherence to all legal requirements and to all policies applicable to the Plants, the Site, and Bayer;
  • Effectively network with Area Safety Coordinators (production, maintenance, other) to identify, share, and implement best practices for the benefit of the Site and the business;
  • Owner of Central Safety Committee (CSC Agenda and Strategy);
  • Skilled in coaching, training, and relationship building to effectively implement change with all functions and roles of the site;
  • Ability to think systematically, integrating people, processes, and tools in a manner that drives measurable outcomes and continuous improvement;
  • Collaborate with various groups across the site to identify hazards, remove risks and provide safe solutions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree; Engineering, Chemistry, or related degree;
  • Strong skills in oral/written communication, time, task, and project management, priority setting, decision making;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Ability in interact and work with all levels of team and senior leadership to meet business deliverables;
  • Identify, manage, and champion change;
  • Promote flexibility to safely meet business objectives;
  • Self-motivated to identify and promote new ideas to improve team and areas performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 Years\' experience in Safety function at manufacturing site;
  • 5 Years\' experience at a Chemical production site ;
  • 5 years\' experience in safety related role leading technical and nontechnical teams;
  • Knowledge of safety compliance systems (OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, and Risk assessment).
